Is er hier iemand bekend met de band Arsis of met hun geweldige (debuut?)album "A Celebration of Guilt"? Echt geweldig hoe deze band technische deathmetal combineert met Gothenburg-invloeden en een vleugje van de latere Carcass (Heartwork!)... niet extreem origineel dus, maar wel supergoed uitgevoerd. Deze plaat kreeg in ieder geval een 9 bij het Aversion Line webzine.
Ik kan alleen nergens ontdekken of ze nog meer materiaal hebben uitgebracht en waar de band vandaan komt

Carcass imiteren is vrij kansloos

wie heeft het hier over imiteren?

Ik hoorde vorige week een nummer van hun voorbij komen op de beMETAL internetradio en heb daarna gelijk ff het hele album opgesnord. Maar het is zeker een goed album!
Het is een Amerikaanse band, als ik mij niet vergis.

Oeh, de nieuwe Arsis heerscht weer hard! United in Regret vond ik nogal een teleurstelling na het volstrekt geniale avontuur van A Celebration of Guilt, maar nu lijkt Arsis zich weer helemaal herpakt te hebben. Catchy melodieën wisselen zich af en combineren zich met heavy geshred en blastbeats, dit alles met een subliem gevoel voor techniek. Maarrr, het belangrijkste blijft bij Arsis toch naast de riffs juist de songstructuren die je keer op keer van je stoel blazen.

O ja, en nog een perfecte productie ook; lekker cripsy en gevoel voor detail maar nergens overgeproduceerd.

Een hele dikke + 1.

Moet heel raar lopen wil We Are The Nightmare dit jaar niet in mijn top-10 terechtkomen (was er vorig jaar een beetje vroeg mee...).

Dilemma...

Ik probeer de laatste tijd wat minder cd's te kopen en dus wat strenger te zijn met de selectie.

Maar bij Arsis kom ik er niet helemaal uit. Ik vind zowel A Celebration of Guilt als We are the nightmare erg goed.

Moet ik ze beide kopen of 1 van de 2?

Mij voorkeur gaat momenteel nog uit naar We are the nightmare.

Ik zou zeggen allebei, maar ik vind ze dan ook allebei erg goed en heb inmiddels alles van ze. Ik kijk al uit naar hun support van Morbid Angel, later dit jaar.

Lekkere band zeg! En ook nog op tour met Morbid Angel; nu kijk ik er nog meer naar uit!

Heeft iemand de DVD die bij We are the nightmare zit al gezien? Ik zit hem momenteel te bekijken. Om je helemaal te bescheuren! Wat zijn die gasten melig zeg.

Krijg hem als het goed is deze week binnen, Relapse zei dat mijn pakket verstuurd was. Ben benieuwd!

Het speelse gitaarwerk is werkelijk om je vingers bij af te likken; echt het sterkste punt vd band imo; die catchy melodie in Servants to the night is verslavend; meer van dit aub!
Ik vind het in tzelfde Death-met-blastbeats achtige straatje als Quo Vadis zitten; zijn er nog meer vergelijkbare bands?

Ik heb intussen zowel A celebration of guilt als We are the nightmare aangeschaft.

We are the nightmare heeft toch wel mijn voorkeur. A celebration of guilt is een erg fijne death metal plaat die heel speels omgaat met ritmes, riffs en tempowisselingen waardoor hij erg lekker weg luistert. Het nummer "The sadistic motives behind bereavement letters" is trouwens echt geweldig.

We are the nightmare vind ik op alle vlakken beter. D'r zit veel meer energie in en de productie knalt lekker. Hierdoor sprankelt het allemaal net wat meer. Ook zitten de songs beter in elkaar. Nummers als We are the nightmare en Sevants to the night zijn bijna catchy.

Hier moet ik even de kanttekening bij maken dat A celebration of guilt waarschijnlijk meer je ding is als je een pure death metal liefhebber bent. We are the nightmare kent namelijk ook behoorlijk wat thrash invloeden. Hij doet me hier en daar ook wat denken aan The Black Dahlia murder. En laat ik dat nou net een geweldige band vinden.

Klopt. We Are The Nightmare is opzich een een sterke plaat met een geweldig spelniveau, maar in vind 'em een stuk minder lekker weg luisteren dan A Celebration Of Guilt; hij is me iets te veel van het "kijk ons een technisch zijn", met name de eerste paar luisterbeurten was ik al snel de draad kwijt. A Celebration Of Guilt blijft mijn favoriet; heerlijk pakkende nummers, technisch super, goede combinatie van agressie en melodie. Kortom; superplaat!

ARSIS: New Album Title Announced - July 28, 2009

Virginia's melodic/technical death metal band ARSIS has set "Starve For The Devil" as the title of its fourth studio album, tentatively due in early 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will be recorded this fall with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris (MUNICIPAL WASTE, AGNOSTIC FRONT, HATEBREED) at Planet Z studios in Hadley, Massachusetts. Artist Mark Riddick will provide his trademarked meticulous and grotesque artwork.

"Starve For The Devil" will mark the return to ARSIS of founding member/drummer Michael Van Dyne. He states: "The new ARSIS record is coming along great. We have eleven new original songs nearly completed, as well as a cover song which will probably be used as a bonus track. Recording this album should be a blast, and the fact that we'll be working with one of the world's top metal producers will only make the experience that much cooler." Guitarist/singer Jim Malone adds: "For the past six months we have been writing songs for 'Starve For The Devil', and I must say that I am more than pleased with the way things are going. Mike Van Dyne and I rehearsed this past weekend; it was the first time we have played together in over two and a half years. The rehearsal went amazing; he has really done the songs justice."

ARSIS will embark on the Neckbreakers Ball European tour in October with BEHEMOTH and DEVILDRIVER.

ARSIS' latest album, "We Are the Nightmare", was released in April 2008 through Nuclear Blast Records. The package contains a bonus 45-minute DVD that includes the band's time in the studio, off-stage antics, and some general goofing around. The album was produced by Zeuss (AGNOSTIC FRONT, HATEBREED, MUNICIPAL WASTE) at Planet Z Studios in Massachusetts and was mastered by Alan Douches (KATAKLYSM, UNEARTH, SHADOWS FALL).

We are the nightmare is zeker het luisteren waard!
De drums vind ik wat eenvormig maar het gitaarwerk is om je vingers erbij af te likken en zoals je live wellicht hebt kunnen zien doet hij zang en solo's tegelijk alsof t niets is. Erg knap.
De dvd die erbij zit is trouwens ook vermakelijk met die humor van ze.
