Ik ga voor allebij.

Soms gebruik ik een occtaver.
Geeft wel een verbetering.



De bassist speelt clean waardoor er een gat valt bij solo's inderdaad.
Aan de andere kant is een cleane bas wel duidelijker.
Maar ik ga ook voor af en toe meer drive op de bass.
Net als vroeger, dat was wel vet.

Mooiste is een 2e maar ook echt stakke gitarist.
Door de laag gestemde gitaren wordt een 2 gitarist al snel een brei, en dat willen we niet.

Ja, dat laatste lijkt mij ook wel ja. Maar waarom geen Big Muff op de bas bij de solo's? Volgens mij vang je het dan al wel op.

Ik meen dat onze bassist wel iets van een overdrive in de oefenruimte gebruik bij dat soort stukken.
Wellicht ging hij live meer voor het gemak, je kent het wel snelle opbouwtijd enzo.

Mijn favorite basgeluid is een fender bassman> basgitaar in cleane bass channel, verbinden naar guitar channel met daartussen een overdrive pedaal ala od808.

Het laag blijft behouden met de ronk van de overdrive, en prik overal doorheen.
Onze zanger gebruikt deze methode bij zijn andere band "zo heet die band echt" Dirty East Godverdomme.
Bas is daar lekker in die band, met ook maar 1 gitarist.

MASSIVE ASSAULT – Dystopian Prophecies review - nocturnalhall.com

This review goes out to all the hobgoblins spending their annual leave in the Swedish scrub to cull their bloody steak by the power of their hands – moose meat chiefly.

I would have bet my ass that MASSIVE ASSAULT dwells in Sweden.
If I had bet it would be a bad deal – in the true sense of the word!
The epicenter called Dystopian Prophecies has its origin in the Netherlands and rolls with a gigantic old school Death Metal wave straight to North.
Definitely not bad for a band that goes hunting with Dystopian Prophecies as their first longplayer since founding back in 2003!
And if old school then let’s go the whole hog!
So, there’s no double-bass-plowing through the thicket or technical fancy guitar-play until the phalanges splinter in it.

MASSIVE ASSAULT really knows how to transport the spirit in their songs in that way that this stuff comes close up to many old Carnage and Dismember tracks later then.
The right melody-lines are chosen; the guitars saw in well-known tradition and lend Dystopian Prophecies that certain something!
Ideally suited for every old school freak!

Earlier this month I had an interview with Fredde, guitarist in the Dutch old-school Death Metal band Massive Attack. I also received a nice crispy copy of their debut full-length, released last year, following up on two demos and an EP. The thing looks very decent, nice high res booklet, great design on the CD itself and a dude holding his own eyes in his hand on the cover. Yum yum. Food for review!

Fredde repeatedly termed their stuff as old-school Death Metal. In fact, track no. 6, O.S.D.M. (an abbreviation for Old School Death Metal), starts with the lyrics: “Yeah, Massive Assault. Old school, Massive Assault. Death Metal. Bringing the old-school back to life. Devoted to metal for life.” Do I agree? Hell yeah! Massive Assault churns out a sound with an “old-schooledness” you don’t find often anymore nowadays, and the best part is that you do get all of today’s quality standards satisfied. Proper sound quality and mixing turn all into a tasty sounding mash.

I’ve talked to Fredde about it in the interview, but it’s worth highlighting their guitar sound again. It’s the thickest, greasiest, most heavily distorted sound ever. It’s pretty much excessive and nearly sounds synthetic, but boy is it pleasant! Luckily Fredde has been wise enough to stir through quicker, higher-pitched melodies at times, to break the pattern, such as in the track The Rival Believer, so the sound never gets numbing!


The track Come with Me features some rockabilly-type solo bits and riff pieces, as were it a really loud ‘n low Peter Pan Speedrock. On the other hand, the album’s title track features a slow, dark, Black Sabbathian vibe at the start and then turns to speed and blunt violence with hints of melodic black metal darkness. Subtle variations that make the album very much worthwhile. Dystopian Prophecies, both the track and the album, stick. Interesting all the way to the end. Dystopian Prophecies is a track worthy to be named an album after. A very good album!

So, tempo changes, phat sound, bass-drum-moderate drumming, dark atmosphere and an angry baboon to finish the job with unforgiving no-nonsense grunts. Pretty much everything that Death Metal was originally all about, fitted in a modern day jacket. This one’s definitely worth your ten Euros or twelve Bucks! Buy it by contacting them through their MySpace!

•you like old-schooooool!
•you’ve got ten Euros or twelve Bucks to spare
•you like to headbang, but also like to listen to what you headbang to
