Jaja de docu's blijven komen:

'Global Metal' Documentary: More Information Revealed - May 7, 2008

From the metalheads who brought you "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" comes "Global Metal", a feature documentary that will take audiences to unexpected corners of the world — from Indonesia, Japan and China to India, Israel, Dubai and Brazil – to check out the international flavors of what turns out to be a most universal music — heavy metal.

In "Global Metal", directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn set out to discover how the West's most maligned musical genre — heavy metal — has impacted the world's cultures beyond Europe and North America. The film follows metal fan and anthropologist Sam Dunn on a whirlwind journey through Asia, South America, South Asia and the Middle East as he explores the underbelly of the world's emerging extreme music scenes — from Indonesian death metal to Chinese black metal to Iranian thrash metal. "Global Metal" reveals a worldwide community of metalheads who aren't just absorbing metal from the West — they're transforming it — creating a new form of cultural expression in societies dominated by conflict, corruption and mass-consumerism.

Along the way Sam reunites with many of his metal heroes, witness BLACK SABBATH perform for 40,000 fans in a soccer stadium in Rio De Janeiro; SLAYER play to a sold-out hall in Jakarta; and ARCH ENEMY rock an open-air festival in Tel Aviv. More importantly, in each local Sam will explore how metal has taken on traditional musical differences, how it speaks to issues of power, class and economic disadvantage, what it says about religion, and how it fits into, or stands opposed to local tradition and history.

Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn share producer/writer/director credits on "Global Metal". Scot said that the impetus for "Global Metal" came from the overwhelming response to their first film "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey". "We had high hopes for the documentary but after the premiere at 2005 TIFF things took off beyond our expectations."

"'Metal' was picked up by distributors in over 30 countries from Europe to the Middle East, Asia and South America and it was getting great reviews from both press and audiences. As word of the film spread, we got emails from metalheads around the world thanking us for finally telling the story of this community with respect. These metal fans also told us about the emerging metal scenes in their countries: places we never imagined heavy metal existed. It made us realize that metal has spread far beyond its roots in industrial Europe and suburban America to become a global phenomenon. So Sam and I decided to make another documentary about metal! Although we both felt that the film shouldn't just be a sequel — it should take us somewhere completely new. We wanted to know what heavy metal means to people who are coming from such vastly different cultural, political and religious backgrounds. How did metal arrive in these countries? And does it have the same rebellious, anti-religious spirit that it does in the West? We thought that metal could be a fascinating 'lens' through which to explore the globalization of culture and its impact on youth around the world."

'Heavy Metal In Baghdad' To Open INTERNATIONAL AMSTERDAM FILM FESTIVAL - Oct. 11, 2008

"Heavy Metal in Baghdad", a feature film documentary that follows the Iraqi heavy metal band ACRASSICAUDA from the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 to the present day, will open the International Amsterdam Film Festival on October 16.

For more information, visit www.iaff.nl.

"Heavy Metal in Baghdad" was released on DVD on June 10. The "collector's edition" of the DVD features over 90 minutes of bonus material, including the following:

* 45-minute featurette: "Heavy Metal In Istanbul" — the documentary that picks up where "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" left off
* Seven additional and deleted scenes: 30 minutes of extra content including extended interviews with the band plus a meeting with the "Iraqi Godfather" in Syria; three live performances: "Acrassicauda Live!" – Original ACRASSICAUDA songs "Underworld", "King Without A Throne" and "Message From Baghdad" performed in 2006 and 2008.
* Eight-page booklet: including the original Vice magazine article "No War For Heavy Metal"
* Movie trailer

Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has always been a difficult (if not impossible) proposition but after Saddam Hussein's regime was toppled, there was a brief moment for the band in which real freedom seemed possible. That hope was quickly dashed as their country fell into a bloody insurgency. From 2003 to 2006, Iraq disintegrated around them while ACRASSICAUDA struggled to stay together and stay alive, always refusing to let their heavy metal dreams die. Their story echoes the unspoken hopes of an entire generation of young Iraqis.

Huppaah...de volgende docu:

Actor KEANU REEVES To Present 'The Story Of Anvil' London Premier - Oct. 14, 2008

Keanu Reeves, the actor best known for his portrayal of Neo in the action film trilogy "The Matrix", Ted Logan in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey" and Officer Jack Traven in "Speed", will present the London, England premier of ANVIL's movie "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" on October 21 at Odeon West End 1. The documentary will also play on October 23 at Odeon West End 2.

For more information, go to this location.

ANVIL's movie "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" screened as the Centerpiece of the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 26, 2008 at the Ford Amphitheater in a program that included live musical performances and "special guests," including ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian. Check out photos from the event from Wire Image.

"Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is a mockumentary-like true account of fiftysomething Canadian heavy-metal practitioners Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner who, after a desultory European tour with their band ANVIL, decide to record a 13th album in a final attempt to fulfill their boyhead dreams of stardom.

Director Sacha Gervasi is an old friend of the band's that used to do some roadie work for them back in the 1980s. He has filmed some of their shows from their November 2005 and June 2006 European tours. He also filmed Lips' 50th birthday show at Heads or Tails in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada on February 25, 2006. As well, he filmed some of the recording of "This Is Thirteen". Sacha also interviewed many people from ANVIL's past and present, including former bandmembers.

wat een akelige knuffelfilm

echt de dooddoeners die je altijd hoort in die vh1-docu's. It was great, it was all about the music, it wasn't just music, it was a way of life etc. etc. etc.

mooi was die tijd

metalica maakte de thrash en dat was prima
oh nee, eigenlijk toch dave mustaine
