Ik vind die nieuwe voorlopig nogal tegenvallen. Er staan wel enkele leuke nummers op zoals A Chapter in Loathing en Bring Me Victory, maar het geheel boeit me totaal niet.

Vorige week donderdag heb ik For lies I sire aangeschaft en intussen heb ik hem ook bijna helemaal grijs gedraaid. Samen met de nieuwe Mastodon zijn het de enige 2 albums die deze week in mijn playlist staan.

Ik hoor een hoop ontevreden geluiden over dit album. En dan vooral omdat het geen vernieuwing brengt. Voor mij is dat geen probleem. My dying bride heeft al perfectie bereikt met hun sound en daar hoeft wat mij betreft niks meer aan te gebeuren. Aan de andere kant moet ik zeggen dat men op elk album eigenlijk toch weer anders klinkt. For lies I sire is bijvoorbeeld wat lichter, minder dreigend en meer melancholiek dan A line of deathless kings. Het verschil ligt hem niet in de muziek maar in de toon en de emotie. Voor mij ligt For lies I sire misschien nog het dichtst bij The angel and the dark river.

Ik heb in ieder geval weer enorm genoten van het geweldige riffwerk en de prachtige diepgang. My dying bride blijft voor mij de keizer van de doom.

Ondanks briljant toch uitgeleend.

Nog geen spijt van uitgeleend daar hij geript op de harde schijf staat.
Maar schoonheid moet je delen.

Een paar woorden hierover van Aaron.

De opmerking "Unlike other bands we are proud of our old songs" tijdens de laatste show in de Effenaar was volgens mij ook een behoorlijke veeg uit de pan naar Anathema.

Anderzijds is indertijd Martin Powell van MDB naar Anathema gegaan omdat hij de sfeer miste in de muziek van MDB. Ik hoorde van de MDB merchdame in de Effenaar trouwens dat hij op het punt staat zijn Master degree aan het conservatorium te halen en dat hij tegenwoordig kort haar heeft. Het is en blijft een held

Daar sluit ik me ook bij aan. Vond na een tijdje het middenstuk van de plaat ook wel erg rustig, maar heb daar geen moeite meer mee nu ik de nummers beter ken. Geniet regelmatig van deze plaat.

Tsja.. je kunt het gokken.. maar of het waar is..

Zal allemaal wel meevallen volgens mij. Ze stonden immers vorig jaar nog samen, met ook Paradise Lost, op het podium.

de nieuwe schijf nu een aantal maal gedraaid... maar nee, helemaal raken doet 't me niet... as the flower withers en the dreadful hours blijven toch mijn meest favorite full lenght cd's van MDB.

Ik vind de nieuwe MDB erg straf
zonder enige twijfel de beste doom release voor mij tot nu toe dit jaar
zelfs 1 van de sterkste cd's die ik dit jaar al heb gehoord

maar als je hem vergelijkt met bvb the dreadfull hours of the angel and the dark river ...
dan merk ik toch een relatief groot verschil in niveau

New EP in the Making

My Dying Bride have been busy in the Future Works studio, recording material for a new EP release, titled Bring Me Victory. Two covers, one of the traditional 'Scarborough Fair' and a cover of 'Failure' by the Swans, will be part of this new EP. A new video has been completed as well to support the release.

An October release date has been pencilled in but this may be put back a little depending on how the last days of recording go!

More as we get it.

Bring Me Victory Video Still A new video will complement the release which will hopefully be around late October.

'Scarborough Fair' is a traditional English folk song without specific origin but was made popular by Simon and Garfunkel in 1966. My Dying Bride's version will feature two new introductory verses written by Aaron and will naturally feature the bands usual epic style with violins and crushing guitars. 'Failure' was originally written by Swans and has been a favourite within the MDB camp for many years.

bring me victory vind ik een betere titel voor Unleashed!

EP is inmiddels uit, niet echt wereldschokkend maar best aardig.

Zojuist de vinyl versies van The Light at the End of the World en The Dreadful Hours binnengekregen. Mijn My Dying Bride vinyl collectie is weer compleet

"2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the U.K. doom titans MY DYING BRIDE. To commemorate two decades of doom and gloom, the band embarked upon a project to re-work familiar melodies and themes from MY DYING BRIDE's extensive catalogue into long, flowing symphonic compositions, including new vocals and passages from vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe. These arrangements have been brought to life, in cooperation with keyboard maestro Johnny Maudling (of BAL-SAGOTH fame), and will be released as "Evinta" this fall on Peaceville Records.

"'Evinta', a project almost 15 years in the making, an idea that has sat smouldering and never really had a reason to burn alive until now," explains guitarist Andrew Craighan. "Nine albums worth of darkness recreated anew to mark 20 years of MY DYING BRIDE. Music arranged to the soundscapes of sorrows past. Finally the 20th anniversary allows us to release this music in a form it has been desperately, woefully waiting for. Enjoy the darkness."

"Evinta" will be available as both a two-disc and special three-disc set, each disc its own sprawling classical work spanning a large period of MY DYING BRIDE's album material. The three-disc set will also be accompanied by a specially limited 72-page hardback book, featuring rare images and photographs from the band's personal archive from over the years.

To coincide with this 20-year celebration, MY DYING BRIDE will also re-release a vinyl version of one of the band's most respected early works, "Turn Loose the Swans", which will be limited to 2,000 numbered copies, and features the original vinyl cover artwork design and gatefold sleeve."



Ben blij dat ze Turn Loose the Swans opnieuw op vinyl uitbrengen. Mijn huidige versie is nodig aan vervanging toe...

Tja, op zich leuk, maar ik had toch liever volledig nieuw materiaal gehad.

Turn loose the swans op vinyl? Hm... in dubio, ik zou graag Your River en the Songless Bird op plaat willen hebben, maar de rest van dat album boeit me niet echt.
