Een leuk, gezellig klein festivalletje vlak over de grens bij Venlo

Time flies when you're waiting for the Dong Open Air 2008! We have almost made it through the first half of the year expecting the next summer! If you feel like going back in time a bit, pretty much back to the last Dong, go and check out the Orphaned Land video by Century Media of their show last summer! If you're curious about how 2008 will be, check out our new design at www.dongopenair.de! The 8th Dong Open Air is approaching quickly! The 18th and 19th July will be themed “More Evilor Than Skeletor“!

We would also like to take the chance to remind you of our band application deadline: Only few more days until the final due date at December 20th! If you are considering to take part and introduce yourself, go right ahead and do so quickly. Go to www.dongopenair.de and click on “band applications“ right on the main page. You can send in your application via mp3 download or by snail mail!

Anyone who already applied through the mp3 upload, but didn't get a confirmation mail yet, should know that you have to click the “Finish“ button to complete your application! Otherwise you will not receive a confirmation mail.

Aanrader voor bands om dat eens te proberen

Was vorig jaar erg gezellig, met supergoedkope drank! Bier 1,50 per fles Becks meen ik me te herinneren. (alhoewel het het jaar daarvoor 1 Euro was...)

Die 50 cent extra hoor je mij niet over klagen. Leest meneer Wacken hier ook mee?

De voorzieningen zijn dan ook aanzienlijk minder maar de sfeer en het goedkope bier maken dat ruimschoots goed

Lijkt me wel een feestje voor jou om te spelen Lain bovenop de berg

Wordt al lang aan gewerkt.

We zijn absoluut geen metalband, maar toen ik zag dat ze ook rockbands vroegen heb ik ons meteen maar ingeschreven, hehe..

FF wat bandnamen doen het altijd wel goed:

OK, wie gaat? Ik ga wel, haast zeker, denk ik

Wat is het toch met uitverkochte duitse festivals? Dit is ook al uitverkocht Toch wel tegen de verwachting in denk ik.

Zeer apart met zo'n line-up.
Hoe weinig mensen kunnen daar maar komen dan?

Gezien het amateuristische gehalte van de bands, blijf ik wel thuis.

Ongeveer 2000 bezoekers, Regeer.
Het grootste deel van de kaartjes was binnen een dag verkocht.

Mooi klein festivalletje dus.
Maar dat het voor die paar grotere namen toch nog zo snel ging...

Vaste bezoekers. Waanzinnig mooie locatie, goedkope drank.

Beetje Stonehenge effect zeg maar.

Ik ga in elk geval

Ik kan nooit met Dong, heb dat weekend altijd iets anders. Ieder jaar tzelfde liedje. Dit jaar wel Dark Tranquillity en Primordial, das wel jammer dat ik nie kan. Maar goed die zie ik vast nog wel eens ergens anders.

PRIMORDIAL Frontman Explains DONG OPEN AIR Cancellation - May 24, 2008

Vocalist Alan "Nemtheanga" Averill of the of the Irish dark metal masters PRIMORDIAL has issued the following update:

"Last week I/we had to cancel Dong Open Air in Germany.

"I was going to leave making a statement regarding this but due to the ridiculous amount of negativity and back-biting I've been not only reading on forums, guestbooks and our MySpace page, let me make a few things clear.

"We cancelled Dong Open Air in 2007 because we were recording an album. We also cancelled Metal Healing in Greece as well during the same time period. Anyone who knows anything about PRIMORDIAL knows we don't churn out an album every year and the window of time we booked in Foel Studios last summer was the only opportunity we had to record 'To The Nameless Dead'. It's unfortunate we had to cancel both festivals but obviously recording an album takes priority.

"I agreed to do the show in the summer of 08 as recompense for the 07 cancellation but try as we might we simply do not have a band available to fulfill this committment.

"So listen up all you anonymous keyboard hacks and monitor snipers, you think it's about money? You think we can play every show we are offered? We never made a living from PRIMORDIAL. We have incredible difficulties even getting together to rehearse let alone play shows. What we have confirmed is about 50% of what we get offered. We are all aged between 30 and 36 years old and with that comes ommitments, work, families, mortgages, bills, mouths to feed and mundanities of life we cannot avoid.

"I shouldn't have to defend our actions; it is always disappointing to have to cancel shows and we apologise for that, but that's life. If I was to post or blog every shitty fucked up, underhanded negative thing that's happened to this band since 1991 then you would be sick of reading them after one week.

"We don't treat matters like this lightly. I tried for months to find a solution but we simply don't have enough band members. We have Gerry from MAEL MORDHA helping us when we can and without whom we would play even less shows but having anymore session members would feel even less like the 'real' PRIMORDIAL.

"The pressures on bands now by promoters, booking agents, magazines and the competition now in the industry in general is huge. Everyone wants a piece of the pie and we are getting offers not only for 2009 but 2010. I get pressured to sign a contract now for shows in 12-15 months, who knows what can happen then? Someone has to start a new job one week before and all of a sudden can't play, there are a myriad of reasons why and it's never simple so we ask for your understanding not your contempt. Of course it's more positive then being offered nothing but everyone is trying to stay ahead of the game, CD sales are down and everyone in every backwater of Europe now has a festival of their own. We are not a professional band — we never were and never will be. If you place professional demands on a band that is not pro, then sometimes the train will derail. It's unfortunate, but we are human beings, not machines, and sometimes other things in life make standing on that stage impossible. If we could make a living from this and not have to work, then fair enough, but as I said before, we don't.

"I'd like to thank the people at Dong for their patience in dealing with us lastly. However, until you know the details behind decisions like this, then take some time to think of the human element before you step up to your keyboards like the brave new world warriors you are and take a shot at us. Shit happens, take it like men."

Es gibt Neuigkeiten vom Dongberg zu berichten! Fangen wir mit den schlechten Nachrichten an: Es tut uns sehr leid, Euch mitteilen zu müssen, dass Primordial zum zweiten Mal in Folge ihren Auftritt auf dem Dong Open Air abgesagt haben. Trotz monatelanger Bemühungen unsererseits und der Bookingagentur, ist es nicht gelungen, die Band um Frontmann Alan Nemtheanga zur Einhaltung ihrer vertraglichen Zusage bewegen zu können. Im letzten Jahr sagte die Band aufgrund eines nach Vertragsabschluss vorgezogenen Studiotermins ab, bot aber direkt das D.O.A 2008 als Nachholtermin an. Es scheint allerdings so, dass dies von Seiten der Band trotz schriftlicher Regelung von Anbeginn an nicht für besonders wichtig gehalten wurde. Teilte uns Alan im letzten Jahr noch mit, dass Primordial ihre Shows und ihr Publikum sehr ernst nähmen, so scheiterte der Auftritt in diesem Jahr allen Ernstes u.a. an fantastischen Shuttleroutenvorschlägen quer durch Deutschland, bzw. Holland und ungünstig liegenden Geburtstagen im Umfeld der Gruppe. Uns bleibt nun nichts weiter übrig, als festzustellen, dass die Ausnahmeband es sich leisten kann. Bespielt sie in dieser Saison doch eine Vielzahl der großen und namhaften Festivals. Trotz der Aufmerksamkeit und der vielen Termine bezeichnet sich die Gruppe als nicht-professionell, beschwert sich aber zugleich auf ihrer Website über den frühen Wacken-Slot. Wir vom Dong müssen das mit dem "nicht-professionell" nun leider bestätigen.
