The True Symphonic Rockestra - Concerto in True Minor

Het idee is best leuk, maar echt overtuigd ben ik niet. Ten eerste lopen er in het metalwereldje heel wat betere stemmen rond voor dit repertoire dan James LaBrie. Verder klinkt de 'metal' bewerking (inclusief bamboe-achtig drumgeluid) van de klassieke nummers vaak nogal geforceerd, zoals bv bij La Donna e Mobile en O Sole Mio. Wat mij betreft hadden ze het bovendien bij alleen klassieke nummers kunnen laten, want bv. Singing in the Rain klinkt voor geen meter. Wel nog goed te pruimen op deze plaat: Non ti Scordar di me, Nessun Dorma, With a Song in my Heart en Memories.

Queen & Paul Rodgers - The Cosmos Rocks

Nogal wisselende plaat. De hele discussie over het gebruik van de naam Queen en de vervangbaarheid van Freddie buiten beschouwing gelaten staan er een paar mooie nummers op: Time to Shine, Small, Say it’s not True (klinkt wel erg bekend, geen nieuw nummer geloof ik), We Believe (wel wat cheesy) en Some Things that Glitter. Dit zijn over het algemeen de rustige nummers, terwijl de rockers me helemaal niet kunnen boeien. Cosmos Rockin’, Call me, Still Burnin’ en Surfs up… School’s Out kunnen geskipped worden.
