Former HELLOWEEN Singer To Guest On New TRICK OR TREAT Album - Sep. 17, 2008

Former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske has recorded a guest appearance on two songs ("Hello Moon" and "Tears Against Your Smile") on the forthcoming album from the Italian band TRICK OR TREAT. Entitled "Tin Soldiers", the CD is scheduled for release on October 31 via Frontiers Records. Also making an appearance on the album is Michele Luppi (ex-VISION DIVINE), who can be heard on "Take Your Chance".

TRICK OR TREAT consists of Alessandro Conti (vocals), Luca Cabri (guitar), Guido Benedetti (guitar), Leone Villani Conti (bass) and Mirko Virdis (drums).

Commented Michael Kiske: "I did sing parts in one song, and another one in whole. What I really liked about them is that they seem to enjoy what they are doing. In German we call it 'Spielfreude'; that's always very uplifting and fresh. No matter how naive the lyrics sometimes may be, as long as a band really is excited about their music, I get a kick out of it. And they seem to be in in with all their heart."

TRICK OR TREAT started out as a HELLOWEEN tribute band before recording a four-song demo of original material, "Like Donald Duck", which received positive reactions. A deal with Valery Records followed and the band released its debut album, "Evil Needs Candy Too", in 2006.

KAI HANSEN Joins Forces With MICHAEL KISKE In UNISONIC - Mar. 15, 2011

Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY, ex-HELLOWEEN) has joined UNISONIC, the new band featuring former HELLOWEEN vocalist Michael Kiske alongside Dennis Ward (bass) and Kosta Zafiriou (drums) of Germany's PINK CREAM 69 and Swiss guitarist Mandy Meyer (who has previously played with ASIA, GOTTHARD and KROKUS)

Commented Kiske: "After so many years of abstinence, I had a lot of fun doing my first live shows with UNISONIC in summer 2010, so I agreed to do the short world tour with AVANTASIA. It was a great experience to be on stage with all those great artists, but with Kai it was something different: We instantly felt the magic again and had a lot of fun together on and off stage. We both realized that we want to be together in band again. He was interested in the open musical concept of UNISONIC and finally asked me if he can join the band. I talked to my bandmates and they all felt great about it. His talent as a guitarist and songwriter is an enrichment for the band and we are looking forward to his contribution for the music of UNISONIC."

Kai Hansen will remain a member of GAMMA RAY and play all of the band's currently scheduled shows. He is presently writing songs with the rest of the UNISONIC members for the group's long-awaited debut album, tentatively due at the end of 2011.

A demo version of the "Souls Alive" track from UNISONIC — which doesn't feature Kai Hansen — can be streamed below. The song was first performed at the band's debut concert, which took place on June 5, 2010 at Live Music Hall in Mörlenbach, Germany. The show also marked Kiske's first live appearance in 17 years.

Having split with HELLOWEEN in late 1993, Kiske participated in various projects and released several solo albums but had not been part of a real group effort until now.

While collaborating with Ward and Zafiriou on the PLACE VENDOME project five years ago, Kiske found two musical soulmates. They ended up recording two PLACE VENDOME albums before deciding to join forces in a new brand new band. Ward, who had previously produced a record for KROKUS, suggested Meyer as the perfect addition to the group in the vacant guitarist slot.

Kiske, one of the finest and most unique voices in contemporary rock music, explains his motivation of becoming a part of a band again: "Since the PLACE VENDOME productions I was impressed by Dennis Ward's skills as a songwriter and producer. We were occasionally fooling around since then via email that we should do more together in the future, so the idea came up to do a new band. I was generally getting a bit tired of doing everything on my own for so many years, so it just felt like the right thing to do now. We can all only benefit from working together. No matter how good you are solo, four people will always be better than one, I think, if they manage to function together. And a real band is also a very good reason to finally go on tour again."

Vind je die echt zo goed? ik knapte jelemaal af op helloween door deze cd's. Walls of Jericho vind ik het allerbeste!

Machtige schijf is dat inderdaad, maar als ik denk aan klassieke Helloween denk ik ook Kiske/Hansen, zoals de meeste mensen denk ik.

Al vind ik persoonlijk de eerste en Walls Of Jericho ook de beste. Maar beide Keeper-platen ook erg goed, en ik kan Pink Bubbles ook goed aanhoren. Kamelejong al een stuk minder, en daarna muzikaal nog wel enkele goede platen, maar deze worden verpest door een totaal incapabele zanger.

Knapte je er echt op af?

Ik vind het wel een beetje een Paul diAnno/Bruce Dickinson discussie, overigens ook aangezien ik Kiske altijd de Duitse BD heb gevonden.

Walls of Jericho vind ik ook een goeie plaat, maar dan vooral qua songs (wel nogal een Judas Priest ripoff, maar ja..). De zang van Kai past er wel bij, maar is vaak tenenkrommend vals. Bij de Keeper albums viel alles voor mij op z'n plaats. Ik ben dan ook blij dat ze een aantal oude nummers heropnamen.

Helemaal mee eens.

Zodra er een nieuwe Helloween plaat uitkomt vind ik die in eerste instantie altijd erg gaaf, kies ik er na een maand tijd altijd nog maar een handvol goede songs uit waarvan er vaak maar een of twee blijven hangen die ik echt gaaf vind. Daarna denk ik steevast, "tja, echt Helloween is het niet meer."

Grootste probleem naast Andi Deris vind ik het meer groovy (en simpele en weinig melodieuze) karakter van veel nieuwe songs, terwijl de band vroeger garant stond voor een bak melodie en meezingbaarheid waar Abba nog wat van kon leren, en een gitaarsoloblok midden in de song met minimaal vier verschillende solo's.

Dat was voor mij de grootste kracht van Helloween en hoewel het na Chameleon nooit meer echt goed is gekomen is het na Better Than Raw voor mij echt afgelopen en heeft het ook nog weinig met (oude) Helloween te maken, hoewel het an sich natuurlijk best lekkere muziek is.

Van de combinatie Kiske/Hansen verwacht ik dan ook best wat, aangezien Hansen doorgaans nog pakkende, melodieuze power metal uit de veer weet te krijgen.

Helloween is natuurlijk niet "bruut" maar ik miste de power een beetje. Walls of jericho heeft nog lekker speedmetal/thrashinvloeden en dat miste ik bij "keepers....".

Starlight en Victim Of Fate klinken idd erg fijn met Kiske

Ik heb blijkbaar iets gemist, ik dacht dat ik al het materiaal zonder Deris wel had, maar blijkbaar toch niet.

Over Deris gesproken, ik vind hem niet echt fantastisch, maar zo superslecht ook weer niet. Ik vind het sowieso een goede entertainer. Het zijn eerder de nummers van de latere platen die minder zijn, naar mijn mening dan. Het oude werk is gewoon supergoed, zoniet briljant. De teksten ook. Zelfs als het "grappig" is, dan zit er alsnog een serieuze ondertoon in verborgen die aanzet tot denken.

Helemaal mee eens. Neem een nummer als A Little Time dat Kiske schreef op zijn 17e, zit een simpele boodschap in die je wel enorm aan het denken kan zetten.

Die Keeper met bonustracks heb ik, daar staan de bonustracks van Dr Stein en I Want Out op, maar niet van Future World.(Hier staat dus starlight op, ik heb het even opgezocht).

Dus moet ik die maar eens gaan scoren, want als daar de genoemde heropgenomen versies op staan... Daar ben ik wel erg benieuwd naar. Die versie van "How Many Tears" op "Live In the UK" plaats is ook te gek.

In als Helloween het doet mag het wel van mij. Dat Amaranthe refrein dus.

Het is zo kazig als de neten, maar wel erg lekker en niet zo serieus. In tegenstelling tot Amaranthe, waar de ernst vanaf druipt.

Die plaat is best leuk trouwens.
