BLOOD DUSTER: METALLICA Want Their Shirts, THE HAUNTED Don't Like Their Gay Humor - Feb. 4, 2005
Infamous Australian act BLOOD DUSTER, described as blending lethal grindcore with traditional '70s-style Southern rock and rockabilly rhythms spiced up with a large dose of grossed-out humor, are set to release their debut DVD. The band, who regularly perform naked onstage, have already shocked the world with product such as "Fisting the Dead", the banned-cover "Yeest" album and the less-than-subtle "Cunt".
Beth Price of Rockdetector.com spoke to bassist Jason P.C. Excerpts follow:
Rockdetector.com: You've opened for a large number of international acts that have toured Australia. Which have been your favorites? Any good stories to tell?
Jason P.C.: "THE HAUNTED were the most boring band ever to tour with. Those guys didn't like fun, possibly they were allergic. It could have also been because they tour so much that hanging with a bunch of dicks like us wasn't appealing. We went to a porno store and gave them homosexual greeting cards that we had autographed for them at the end of that tour. They were not amused."
Rockdetector.com: BLOOD DUSTER played at the Big Day Out last year. Was it a big family atmosphere? I did read that METALLICA's Lars Ulrich got severely beaten at ping pong; did you have a lot interaction with the bigger bands on the bill?
Jason P.C.: "Our guitarist did beat Lars in a game of ping pong, yes...I don't know if I would say it was a family thing, but we had a lot of fun and got to hang with everyone for a little bit. METALLICA wanted to trade t-shirts with us. James [Hetfield] wanted a 'Cunt' one as his wife hated the word so he thought it would be funny, but we had sold out of them."
Rockdetector.com: You are on the verge of releasing your first DVD? What can we expect?
Jason P.C.: "The sound will be bad and the vision will be poor but you will get to see BLOOD DUSTER as we are, I see it as a 'Cliff 'Em All' with more piss and less Cliff. I'm looking forward to people's reactions to it."
Rockdetector.com: You intend to play some shows overseas after the release of the DVD, knowing that Australian humor is slightly different from other countries. Do you think that people will understand the sense of humor in the music and stage show?
Jason P.C.: "Probably not. I guess we will see. I hope they don't rush the stage and get angry with our 'mocking' sense of fun. Some parts of Europe are supposed to be pretty humorless areas, so it should be interesting to see reactions to us....just don't mention the war."
