Die laatste 2 vind ik enorm nare films. Maar da's denk ik ook wat je bedoelt? Ik heb een interview met ze (volgens mij de zanger oid) gelezen en die gaf aan 'waarom over Satan en demonen zingen als t échte kwaad hier om de hoek gebeurt als jongelui on drugs vrouwen aanranden etc'. Dat vond ik wel een sterk statement voor een black metal band.

De 90’s zijn al even voorbij hoor.

Mutilation Rites - Chasm

Het geluid van deze Amerikaanse band is moeilijk te peilen en valt binnen verschillende metalsubgenres. Er komt hondsbrutaal jaren '90 deathmetalriffwerk (Deicide, Suffocation) langs, doordringende doompassages, maar ook springerige smerige punkritmes, oldschool blackmetal en moderne proggy blackmetal à la Krallice. Veelzijdig en vooral intens en zeer goed headbangmateriaal. Ook erg goed live!

Voor liefhebbers van Alcest, Novembre en dat soort werk heeft Deadly Carnage met "Through the Void, Above the Suns" een prachtig album gemaakt.

Duurde wat langer, maar was het wachten meer dan waard.

Koenjihyakkei - Dhorimviskha

Ik ben de laatste tijd behoorlijk kieskeurig qua progrock, maar deze plaat van het Japanse Koenjihyakkei is fantastisch, met de drummer van Ruins. Het doet me vooral denken aan de jazzy prog/Zeuhl van het Franse Magma (ook dezelfde opera-achtige vocalen met ook een verzonnen taal) en ook een flinke scheut Zappa en het meest intense werk van The Mars Volta (The Bedlam in Goliath). Low - Double Negative. Allemachtig, wat een plaat. Ik verwachtte 'gewoon' een Low album, maar dit is met afstand het meest experimentele dat ze ooit op een studioalbum hebben gedaan. Superlompe, overstuurde bassen, bakken aan effecten, harde elektronica. De typische Low samenzang wordt soms volledig weggedrukt. Het kraakt en schuurt en het is glorieus. Kunst met geluid.
