Deathbox - Rebuilding The Monolith

Deathbox komt uit Limburg en speelt hoofdzakelijk, u raadt het al, death metal. Maar tijdens deze vijf songs tellende EP laten de heren ook horen dat ze ook wel houden van hardcore (de aanvalshouding) en grindcore (bepaalde ritmes en de soms echt smerige vocalen). De songs zijn vooral degelijk en er zit geen misser tussen. Maar ook geen song die je hart echt in vuur en vlam zet. De productie en mix zijn echter in orde en voor een band die nog niet lang bestaat is dit geen slecht debuut. Overigens treden de heren in eigen streek vrij vaak op en zijn we dus wel benieuwd wat voor vervolg hier wordt aan gegeven in de toekomst.

Deathbox - Rebuilding The Monolith (Demo) (2007)

Although death metal isn't really our cup of tea, we know when something sounds good or not. And what we get to hear from this young band from Venlo, the Netherlands is fucking decent.

Deathbox started out in the summer of 2005 and this is their self-titled demo. According to the promo sheet, the band defines its music as metal, because naming a subgenre with metal would only limit the band in making music. What we do get to hear is a mixture of death metal with some hardcore riffs. Something that can be heard on the second song of this demo: "Shadow Conspiracy". We really liked that one because of the rhythm of the guitar of Rick Caris. You can't really call it a beatdown part, but it's definitely hardcore underneath the death metal violence. Another song we liked was "Scorching Heat Of Blackness". Here because of the drums of Jaer the Bastard.

Let's hope this band gets signed soon, cause we're sure this band will keep pushing itself to a higher level.
