Axe murder boys hebben hun debuut op Psychopathic records uitgebracht. Op hun site staan een paar songs en een video.
Ik vind het erg gaaf moet ik zeggen

May 8: Insane Clown Posse puts on a DARK CARNIVAL

Roy Knyrim, head of SOTA F/X and director of the upcoming CEMETERY GATES (see our last report here), gave Fango the rundown and first pics (see more below) from DARK CARNIVAL, his new horror anthology series hosted by horror-rap band Insane Clown Posse and developed by the band in association with Knyrim and FX artist Patrick Tantalo. “All of Insane Clown Posse’s music is based on the mythos of the ‘Dark Carnival,’ which is this circus that has come to Earth and exposes your sins,” Knyrim explains. “So I had the idea to do an urban anthology television series based on that, with each episode based on one of their songs, and Insane Clown Posse doing the wraparounds à la [TALES FROM THE CRYPT’S] Crypt Keeper.”

With three 22-minute DARK CARNIVAL episodes already complete, Knyrim reveals the origins of his longtime collaboration with ICP: “While I was in Winnipeg doing effects for WISHMASTER 4 and 5, I decided that I’d take a stab at directing. So when I got back to LA, I used my own money to make a spec music video of an ICP song called ‘Southwest Voodoo’ that I really liked, with a whole bunch of makeup and digital effects. I sent it to those guys, thinking they’d just send me a jersey or a T-shirt or something! But they really liked it, and two days later I got a call from their manager asking if I’d direct an MTV commercial for ICP. I just lucked into it. I got really fortunate my first time out. That’s how I met them. I was always a fan.”

Having launched his directorial career with videos for ICP and labelmates Twiztid, Knyrim further honed his craft with the microbudget DEMONS AT THE DOOR (2004), the aforementioned GATES and the upcoming alien-abduction flick NIGHT SKIES, before setting his sights on DARK CARNIVAL. “The format is like TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE and TALES FROM THE CRYPT,” says Knyrim, who also serves as producer. “They are really fun!”

Joining Knyrim and Tantalo in the executive-producing capacity on DARK CARNIVAL are Mike Green, Robert (TWIN PEAKS) Engels (pulling double duty as the show’s head writer) and Alex Abbiss, owner of ICP’s record label Psychopathic Records. Practical and digital FX were handled in-house by SOTA F/X. With production having wrapped on the series pilots, Knyrim and co. are currently in discussions with several outlets for a distribution deal. The creator reveals details of the completed episodes: “The first [one] I directed is called ‘Mad Professor,’ and stars Greg McDonald. It’s basically about a serial killer, who’s taking a body part from each of his victims and using them to build a ‘Frankenstein monster.’ The father of one of the victims is tracking this guy, and he catches up with the killer, and in the end there is a confrontation between the three of them. Walter Phelan [who portayed Dr. Satan in HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES] plays the creature, so that was pretty cool! It’s kind of the serious, evil entry. The second episode, ‘Boogie Woogie Wu’ [also directed by Knyrim], is more of a LOST BOYS/THE GOONIES type of thing,” he continues, “with kids fighting a ‘bogeyman’ in their closet.”

Green, who also line-produced GATES and NIGHT SKIES, handled the directorial duties on the third installment, “Joke Your Mind.” Starring Teaj Sanderson, this episode is described by Knyrim as “kind of a mindf**k, TWILIGHT ZONE, ‘dream-within-a-dream’ story. It’s not really makeup FX-heavy; it’s more visually driven. So we did three really different styles of episodes.” Satisfied with the quality of the series and looking ahead, Knyrim hopes “to bring [other] genre directors onto the show for future episodes” once distribution is set.

“For me, this has been a dream project,” Knyrim concludes. “ICP and the people at Psychopathic Records have been family to me for the last five years. We all have the same taste in music and movies. It’s been great to create a show with people who truly love the horror genre.” Stay tuned for further updates. —Sean Decker & Jack Ulrich
