Het gaat in mijn beleving meer de kant op van misantropie dan kritiek op de maatschappij. De teksten handelen namelijk ontzettend vaak over de walgelijke, hypocriete facade van mensen. Ter illustratie even een paar teksten van mijn favoriete album Individual Thought Patterns:

De teksten zijn wat veralgemeniseerd zodat ze multi-interpretabel worden, maar volgens mij gaan de teksten op ITP ook over de geschreven pers die hem verketterde als een dictator ed. Chuck told me himself on the phone (in 1993), at a time when we were in the midst of a lawsuit over business stuff, that he had written The Philosopher about Paul and "half" his new album (I.T.P.) about me. I'm not proud of this, but it is a fact nevertheless. There is a lot of anger on that record, lyrically, but that represented the way things were back then. Chuck himself, in an interview I saw on YouTube (re: the release of Symbolic), said that he got out a lot of anger writing those I.T.P. lyrics, so it did serve a purpose. ERIC

Jealousy:

The painful moment........ everybody talks about. Chuck is an asshole who always want to have things his way, without any negotiation whatsoever.

CHUCK: "Yeah, it's a fact, but do people spreading this know me at all?? So much rot is being told. Things are blown out of proportion and interlarded with lies. It's true I had my problems with some people but that's part of the deal when you meet and have contact with as many people as I do. My principles are simple, someone who's friendly with me can expect the same from me.But someone not being friendly and making things hard on me also can expect the same.I don't want to go into the Pestilence or other affairs once more but I hardly ever feel responsible for this kind of shit. Ik heb hier even geen referentie van, maar het is wel redelijk bekend dat dit nummer over Rick Rozz gaat die van de Leprosy tour gekicked werd waarna Masvidal voor het eerst inviel.
Rick Rozz maakte nogal eens speelfouten (Masvidal later trouwens ook) en weigerde zichzelf verder te ontwikkelen, en dat statement verklaart natuurlijk waarom er opeens een gitaarduel van 6 solos in voorkomt.

Een ander voorbeeld in deze sfeer is Secret face, dat in eerste instantie gaat over manager Eric Greif (zal me niks verbazen dat het in in tweede instantie over de ex-bandleden en hun Europese Fuck Chuck tour gaat).

Er speelde toen nog de eerste rechtzaak tussen Chuck & Eric. Eric Greif met z'n 2 gezichten:

Blijkbaar zat Rozz al aan de top van z'n kunnen. Beetje vergelijkbaar met Richard Brunelle van Morbid Angel.

Volgens mij heb ik zelfs 'Death' eens gezien zonder Chuck maar met Rivk (in de Paradiso in Amsterdam), één groot boe- en fluitconcert waarbij ik en vele anderen uiteraard voortijdig de zaal verlieten.
