Ik had nog nooit van Chat Pile gehoord, maar dit is een intens werkje. Genre is naar eigen zeggen noise rock/sludge, maar doet mij vooral denken aan Protomartyr meets Godflesh. Tekstueel vooral beïnvloed door de weinig hoopvolle thuisomgeving (Midwest Amerika) van de band.

En dit intrigeert ook.

Dat Chat Pile ga ik in de gaten houden, dat vind ik wel wat.

Ben de laatste maanden niet meer te porren voor dat soort sludgey rock, maar die paar flarden Chat Pile intrigeren wel. Benieuwd wat de volledige plaat doet.

Die Chat Pile-plaat is gaaf, ja! EP's waren al top, dit heeft wat meer dynamiek. Referenties: Godflesh, Daughters, Big Black, vroege Korn (debuut/Life is Peachy), The Jesus Lizard.

Die Portrayal of Guilt-track (ook top!) is van een plaat uit 2021: CHRISTFUCKER. De band bracht vorig jaar zelfs twee platen uit.

Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) zegent ons eindelijk weer een keer met haar betoverende vocalen op de nieuwe EP van Sun's Signature, een project met drummer Damon Reece (o.a. Massive Attack). Ook gastbijdrages van Steve Hackett (ex-Genesis). De muziek balanceert tussen prog, folk, dreampop en triphop. Prachtig.

Die plaat heb ik nog maar één keer beluisterd, maar die viel inderdaad ook bij mij in de smaak. Intrigerende vocalen, en creatief gitaarwerk à la Suuns en Gilla Band, waarbij het meer texturen zijn dan riffs.

Toevallig al iemand bekend met het Gentse Doodseskader (ik ga er vanuit van wel natuurlijk )? Klinkt best lekker. Met een dude van o.a. Amenra en ene van o.a. Kapitan Korsakov. Klinkt lekker vuil en agressief.

2 december stellen ze in de AB hun eerste album voor, "Year one".

Fantastische tweede plaat van het Japanse Asunojokei: Island. Ontzettend kleurrijke mix van post-black, post-hardcore, shoegaze en J-rock met zeer dynamische songstructuren en samenspel. Voor liefhebbers van Deafheaven, Astronoid, møl, Svalbard en Envy.

Ik vind deze plaat erg goed: Dreadnought - The Endless. Zwierige en organische progressieve black/post/doom/folk/prog met interessante vocalen en samenzang. Denk aan bands als The Gathering, Ludicra en Opeth.

Ik heb wat suggesties nodig jongens! Ik ben echt niet verder gekomen dan onderstaand lijstje dit jaar. Ben er totaal niet mee bezig geweest jammer genoeg. Dus kom maar door!

Ik had Shape of Despair en tweemaal King Dude wel verwacht in je lijst. Van KD: zijn laatste album onder deze naam, Death, en ook de samenwerking met Der Blutharsch and the Infinite Church of the Leading Hand. En verder gewoon Negative Plane, voor mij tot nu toe wel de beste metalplaat van dit jaar.
