Het word eens tijd dat ik eens wat meer van de beste man opzoek.

Ik vind Merle Haggard wel een goede countryzanger. Heeft de helft van zijn leven in de bak gezeten en zijn teksten zijn vaak geniaal.
Hij maakt nogal minimalistische country, met zeer eerlijke teksten. Wel erg rechts, zelfs voor country, maar hij is toch behoorlijk bekend.
Ik heb een CD van hem uit 1996, maar zijn spul uit de jaren 60 en 70 is stukken beter.

Wat van zijn werk uit de 60er jaren, 100% anti-hippie.

Wat is die 2de tekst belachelijk zeg. Eerder vertelde je dat hij de helft van zijn leven in de bak heeft gezeten. Als dat de staat geen geld kost en de maatschappij niks toevoegt weet ik het ook niet meer. En om een crimineel nou een werkend man te noemen.... Dom redneck geblaat als je het mij vraagt.

Johnny Cash heerst uiteraard wel ferm. Zijn beste nummer vind ik de nick cave cover, the mercy seat.

Nee, erg intelligent is het zeker niet. Gewoon lekker fout zoals je het niet vaak hoort. Hij heeft ook zat nummers over dat hij in de bak zat enzo. Het zijn gewoon eerlijke teksten, opschrijven hoe hij zich voelt, schijt eraan wat iedereen denkt. Ook al zit het vol met tegenstrijdigheden, het is gewoon recht uit het hart. Ik ben het niet eens met sommige dingen wat hij zegt, maar ik waardeer die openheid en simplicitieit van Merle Haggard.

On topic;
Johnny Cash kan ik ook zeker waarderen.

Nog even een oude Merle Haggard tekst spammen en dan gaan jullie maar weer verder over Johnny Cash. Dit is trouwens een heerschnummer, ook een aanrader voor de Johnny Cash fans. Het is bijna ongelooflijk dat dit een gerespecteerde countryzanger is, die tot op de dag van vandaag muziek uitbrengt.

Ik zit nu heerlijk de eerste van de American Recordings platen te luisteren, en wat is dat toch genieten.

Ik kan soms echt dagen achter alkaar alleen maar Cash draaien, verveeld nooit, en raakt altijd de (welbekende ) gevoelige snaar..

Zijn laatste plaat die onlangs postum is uitgekomen:
A Hundred Highways is zelfs sinds het uitkomen nog steeds de koploper in mijn jaarlijst van 2006.

Geweldige muziek.

Ik ken Johnny Cash eigenlijk helemaal niet goed, maar door zijn muziek springen we wel de tranen in de ogen tijdens een Nike-reclame...Best triest als je tijdens een reclamespot een traan moet wegpinken.
