George Romero Gets Game
A Dawn of the Dead videogame? Read on.

December 15, 2004 - George A. Romero has made a career out of scaring the pantaloons off moviegoers while giving them a chance to laugh -- and think a little -- in the process. Now, Romero's unique, zombie-filled take on horror will get a videogame treatment, as Hip Interactive announces an agreement with Living Dead Productions to produce a series of George A. Romero-branded games.

Details have yet to be revealed, but the games, expected for "all current and upcoming platforms," would almost certainly be based on Romero classics such as Night of the Living Dead and the original Dawn of the Dead. Hip expects to announce the first title soon.

"Horror fans have been searching for the ultimate experience in gaming, and we intend to deliver it to them with the tremendous creative input of legendary director, George A. Romero, and Living Dead Productions," said Arindra Singh, President and CEO of Hip Interactive.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to share George's work and ideas with the game buying public," said Simon Bailey, Managing Director of Living Dead Productions. "We are very impressed with the quality of work that Hip will bring to the games. George's fans and gamers alike will not be disappointed!"

January 19, 2005 - Hip Interactive today revealed that Kuju Entertainment will develop the first of an announced series of games based on director George A. Romero's gory horror universe.

The UK-based developer will take advantage of Hip's agreement with Living Dead Productions, which allows for a series of video games inspired by the iconic director's work -- which includes classics like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead.

Hip has yet to reveal a title or game details, but the company suggests the game will be released across consoles and PC during the company's next fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2006.

"With George A. Romero's cult status and following among horror fans, a property of this pedigree deserves a first class developer. That is exactly what horror fans will get now that we've signed high profile developer Kuju Entertainment," said Hip Interactive CEO Arindra Singh.

"Our spines are tingling in anticipation," commented Ian Baverstock of Kuju Entertainment. "George A. Romero is recognized as one of the leading directors in the horror world. We're excited to be translating the zombies and terror created in George's imagination into an atmospheric gorefest for game players."

Along with extensive wireless game development, Kuju has contributed to projects such as Call of Duty: Finest Hour and Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior.
