Oja en nog: BLIND VANDAL (RUS) met Alexander Firsov Info: Frankly speaking I was in shock, listening this group for the first time. Do we really have uncompromised rock guitar music somewhere in Russia? Rough, rocking and sincere? Grown-up? Drive, fantasy, and feeling of energy coming from guitar solo of Alexander Firsov. There is a guitar music in Russian v namely in Russia, not in Moscow. This is not an ideal time now for a rock music. Pop rules everything and it seems that rock is gone. This is not true, it is alive and growing up in such a places, like Archangelsk. www.guitars.ru (Moscow). Trio is playing power progressive guitar rock like a Joe Satriani style. BV has got two Grand Prixes in All-Russian Rock Festivals: «Art-Platform-2001» (Magnitogorsk) and «Trampline-2003» (Cheboksary). Within last 3 years BV participated in several All-Russian Rock Festivals, popular rock-clubs in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, but also «vandals» no forget about good concert practice in many provincial rock-clubs of Russia (Jaroslavl, Vologda, Kirov, Cheljabinsk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Ufa, Cherepovets….) and in jazz-clubs too. In 2003 BV performed first time outside Russian participating in the rock festival «Chris Festival» in Kjellfjord, Norway, in February-2004 - club-tour in Holland, in December-2004 - «Festin Slupsk» festival in Poland, in March-2005 – club-tour in USA. - Tja, kan niet zeggen dat er ook nog een voorprogramma is .... hahaha |

quote: *onmeunige schop* Ok, komende zaterdag in de Bosuil dus! Hier alvast 2 recensies vd te presenteren cd : ( http://www.seaoftranquility.org/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=3177 ) Coenen, Marcel: Colour Journey Attention guitar players & guitar fans, Marcel Coenen is on the map! Who is Marcel Coenen you say? Well..I said the same thing!! But...Man, the guy can play!! Colour Journey is Marcel Coenen’s (of the band Sun Caged, and formery of Lemur Voice) 2nd solo release (Lion Music), and it just SMOKES! Marcel is from the Netherlands and is not a household name here in the US, but damn this CD just rocks. Part instrumental, part vocal, but pure Guitar Riffage, Colour Journey is a great voyage for any fan of guitar music..PERIOD. From Prog Metal, to Jazzy and Funky, to “radio friendly”, to ‘80’s Metal Shredster’s, all of the songs are delivered with a heavy groove and edge. This CD is anything but boring! Fans of Euro Metal style players like John Norum, Ronni Le Tekro, Yngwie, Mike Wead and Michael Romeo and even Dream Theater’s John Petrucci, will just eat this up. With the music as diverse as it is, Marcel employs a bevy of musicians to help round out this release. There are 7 different singers, 3 different drummers, 2 bassists, and 2 keyboardists involved., and it’s the variety of the “players” that also makes Colour Journey so good. My favorite track, “Patron Saint” is a Prog Metalist’s fantasy! Very Symphony X-ish, with amazing, soulful vocals, perfect off time signatures and a GREAT guitar tone. “La Bella Mira” is a beautiful instrumental that reminds me of Not Of This Earth era Joe Satriani. Haunting , sweet and excellent vibrato phrasing. Another, “grab you by the ear” stand out track is the pure evil, “Tramatized To The Bone”, that features 4 different singers. Vocalist Colleen Gray adds some eerie vocals to the chorus that just makes this song. “Skill Factor”, shows off Marcel’s Jazzy/Funky chops, while “New Race” is a “go for the throat” shredder’s delight! Colour Journey is a good, no, Great CD. It offers a little bit of everything, and Marcel Coenen delivers on ALL tracks. From shredders to tender instrumentals to Funky/Jazzy rockers, Marcel shows he’s a very talented guitarist, that I hope will no longer be a non- household name. He deserves more. And with this release, he just may get what he deserves!! TRACK LISTING 1.) Waiting 2.) Abstract Impact 3.) Patron Saint 4.) La Bella Mira 5.) Traumatized To The Bone 6.) Skill Factor 7.) That Moment 8.) The Shrink 9.) Verbal Defense Mechanism 10.) New Race 11.) Still Bleeding Added: January 21st 2006 Reviewer: Butch Jones Score: Related Link: Marcel Coenen Website Hits: 81 Language: english ( http://www.rocksomething.com/reviews/reviewCoenen.html ) Colour Journey Marcel Coenen Lion Music Reviewed by Adam Harrold www.marcelcoenen.com Tracks: Waiting; Abstract Impact; Patron Saint; La Bella Mira; Traumatized to the Bone; Skill Factor; That Moment; The Shrink; VDM; New Race; Still Bleeding. After one popular solo instrumental album called “Guitartalk”, Marcel Coenen (the guitarist from Sun Caged) has once again decided to release a solo album displaying his immense playing abilities – except this time with guest vocalists on board. The best thing about Coenen isn’t his playing ability, but the fact that he isn’t afraid to mix things up a little. “Waiting” – a superb Dragonforce-esque metal track – is followed by a Satriani style twiddle called “Abstract Impact” and the beautiful, calm tune “La Bella Mira” is followed by “Traumatized to the Bone”, which is practically Death Metal! There are countless talented guitarists in the world – maybe not so many playing at Coenen’s level (though that’s not really the point) – but few that go to such extremes to show just how versatile they actually are. Of course Coenen is at his best when he goes all out to dazzle, as can be seen on “Waiting” and “New Race”, but he manages to avoid the typical facelessness of these guitar-athons by endlessly pulling off changes in genre and mood throughout the aptly-named “Colour Journey”. The vocalists (who include Colleen Gray and Paul Villarreal of Persephone’s Dream and Sun Caged respectively) are well chosen and perform well, but the praise really belongs to Coenen. Guitarists and virtuoso fans will absolutely adore this. |
