Simplicity is usually the best thing to making some great music. I love progressive sounds to a point, and get passionate about thrash and stuff... but it is your basic in your face metal... no matter what genre of it... that has certain power that is almost primal. Some bands have this sort of vibe... even if they are not quite so basic musically. Netherlands Stoner masters Herder is a band that straddles this line. Sounding a lot like a punk infused Trouble with hintings of Sabbath and odd feels of COC as well to keep it all fluid... Herder kicks you squarely in the balls( or the other on our lovely female bangers) and drops you to the ground with the first hit. Strong melodies drive the band, endless heavy dissonant guitars and nasty vocals spin you into its stoner grasp to make for an album chalked full of pure attitude and nastiness. All songs here are so captivating, making you listen to the whole CD without even taking a sip of your beer... its that damned good. A little better levelling in the recording could have helped a little bit withe the overall feeling of the album, but the rawness does work well and it is just as well left alone. These guys are just plainly good. I am getting more and more into Stoner Metal... Herder just makes me want more and more. Now... turn on the album, set it at ten... now...where is my beer?
