Beetje raar, tweede track is wel in orde. Wel een dik geluidje

Denk dat het dan ook niks voor mij is. Ben toch uiteindelijk behoorlijk hard afgehaakt bij de vorige. In eerste instantie best vet en pakkend, maar uiteindelijk wat weeïg en zwak.

Het is eigenlijk nog suffer (imho) dan die vorige

Nou, dan is deze dus duidelijk niet aan mij besteed.

Yup, had ik ook. Na de eerste paar keer luisteren was ik behoorlijk overtuigd, maar na een paar maanden werd ie een stuk vervelender. 'Weeig' is hier het goeie woord ja. Er staan paar hele vette tracks op, maar al dat midtempo-getreuzel hangt me snel de keel uit. Doe mij dan maar Epitaph! Ik ben benieuwd wat ik van die nieuwe vind. De eerste track die ik een paar weken geleden hoorde klonk dan wel weer vet. Ook nog geen 320kbit weten te vinden...

Mijn versie is helemaal (behalve de 2de track: 256kbps) in 192kbps, op zich goed genoeg maar mijn eerste track klinkt als een Myspace-rip omgezet naar 192kbps, vandaar. Die klinken dus erg goed.

Die nieuwe plaat is echt dodelijk saai in al zijn interessantwillendoenheid. Het vliegt allemaal zo voorbij zonder ergens op te vallen.

Even weerleggen (): die nieuwe plaat is juist steengoed! 'Cosmogenesis' komt op mij over als een geforceerde poging om "technische liedjes" te schrijven, maar met 'Omnivium' valt alles op z'n plek. Meer lijn, meer sfeer, meer muziek.

Prima plaat die nieuwe.

Tergend saaie plaat, live ook.

Vind het nu wel een goeie plaat, maar had echt even wat luisterbeurten nodig. Live op NDF vond ik vooral Ocean Gateways erg vet!

Right after the studio sessions, Hans Peter Wilfer, founder and managing director of Warwick, decided to support Thesseling by producing a fretless seven-string version of their famous classic Thumb NT series.

Thesseling, known for his signature fretless playing in progressive death metal, joined OBSCURA in 2007 and recorded the band's full-length albums "Cosmogenesis" (2009) and "Omnivium" (2011), both released via Relapse Records. In 2009 Jeroen rejoined the Dutch death metallers PESTILENCE after a 15-year hiatus. He recorded PESTILENCE's fourth and sixth studio albums, "Spheres" (1993) and "Doctrine" (2011).

Hij heeft duidelijk gekozen voor Pestilence met zijn 7-snarige plank: klonk en zag er vet uit vorige week vrijdag!

Btw als fan van het genre vind ik de laatste Obscura plaat een flinke tegenvaller. Te opzichtig gejat, geen sterke ideeen imo, helaasch..

They are all amazing musicians and will soon announce a very talented bassist who's surely able to melt his style with their music. It's ridiculous that people react by writing 'they should change their band name'. Maybe I've succeeded in putting my own fretless stamp on the bands material, but that doesn't mean there's no successful future for OBSCURA.

"In January 2011, financial circumstances forced me to go back to a regular job; I couldn't tour anymore for weeks in a row. I even cancelled an important CD presentation on March 6th in Germany. And this meant that OBSCURA had to work again with a session bassist. It was very frustrating for the band and at the same time I felt extremely unhappy to disappoint the guys again.

"In early April, I received an e-mail from OBSCURA, right after my other band PESTILENCE announced a small series of shows in Italy, Spain and Portugal, mainly weekend shows. The guys wrote me that if I would play with PESTILENCE, I could have also joined the European tour with OBSCURA. In other words, playing these single shows with PESTILENCE would mean that I had to leave the band.

"On April 6th I made my decision and wrote the guys by e-mail 'It's better to quit.' This message was answered the next day, written: 'By email?' From that day on I've given OBSCURA months of time to announce their new bass player.

"Meanwhile more and more comments were posted on YouTube and Facebook, like 'Where's Jeroen?', 'Why isn't he playing with OBSCURA?' etc. I received a bunch of e-mails from fans, asking if I was still with the band and why I didn't join their tours. Also PESTILENCE had difficulties to avoid those questions in interviews.

"Twelve weeks after sending my 'It's better to quit' e-mail, I only wanted to avoid more confusion. I wanted to perform with PESTILENCE without people thinking that I was still involved with OBSCURA. Since I wasn't in touch anymore with the guys I wrote our record label two times, asking for their opinion about announcing my departure and/or to discuss this with the band. But I didn't get any response, which finally made me sent out a press release to Blabbermouth on July 7th."

Het zal dan wel aan mij liggen, maar ik kan echt grondig genieten van Omnivium. Stukken meer dan van hun eerste plaat.

Vaak vind ik technische death metal niet veel meer dan een hoop zenuwachtig gefreak, maar op Omnivium is de muziek erg technisch maar lijkt er ook een heel natuurlijke "flow" in te zitten. Er zit een bepaalde herkenbaarheid in de nummers.

Er wordt stevig gerefereerd naar de helden van de bandleden. Ik hoor Cynic terug (vooral in de cleane zang) en Morbid angel ligt er redelijk dik bovenop Ocean gateways. Maar dit vind ik geen moment storend. Eigenlijk is het juist wel gaaf gedaan.

Nee, volgens mij ben ik de enige op deze hele pagina, maar ik vind het een erg sterk album. Zeker een van de death metal hoogtepunten van dit jaar voor ondergetekende.
