Ik vind Epitaph catchier dan Oma´s Aan De Top van het allom gerespecteerde K3 ...the thin texture between wrong and right, mostly broken by those who saw the light... |
|

MC Hammer Smashed Face |

Nog een recensie gevonden op www.kronosmortus.hu <<huh OBSCURA - Cosmogenesis This German quartet - Christian Muenzner (guitar), Hannes Grossmann (battery), Jeroen Paul Thesseling (bass) és Steffen Kummerer (guitar, vocals) – was formed in 2002. After 2006’s Retribution this is their second release. The ex-Necrophagist (Christian and Hannes) and ex-Pestilence (Jeroen) members fit the band well beside Steffen, and their death metal music spiced with progressive elements is killer, complex, raw yet melodic. The first track is titled Anticosmic Overload. It’s a mid-paced song full of progressive elements and with several technical parts beside the main verse. The sound is thick yet clean. The vocals are either growling or of a cleaner type but entirely understandable. Next up is Choir Of Spirits opening with a melodic, complex theme. The instrumental play is good. The main structure brings a more open part, while the tempos changes emphasize the separate parts. Universe Momentum crushes everything with its speed. The complex themes, the fast tempo are the characteristics of progressive death meal, and the tune presents creative variations and some resemblance to cult Dissection here and there. Incarnated rather turns back to the ’90s with less technical playing but it’s fairly enough. The bass play is very precise, it’s an outstanding element of the song. Orbital Elements opens with acoustic guitars, and melodies resembling progressive music and gentle play. The technical drumming blends with the bass turning into a loose mood after that. The instrumental track speaks for itself, those open into this kind of music will like this. Desolate Spheres bursts up from the depths powerfully, no mercy here it’s an all-devouring crushing. The growling vocals, the raw force of technical brutality is expressive and irresistible. There are also melodic parts here and the solos are also excellent. The next one is Infinite Rotation with progressive complexity too, and the track is pulsing dynamically. The sound is thick, the rhythm section is hard and the themes are varied. All sound uniformly well here and the vocals got some interesting effect here and there. Noosphere opens with intense, unique play full of tension but with cold reality, mixing well musical shades and the change of moods. There are melodic parts and tighter, more crushing themes also. As far as its base is concerned this track is not that strong as the other but it’s not bad, and the solo also has an important role. The title track is again built on heavier riffs, blessed with a good, fast death metal rhythm. It’s alive, brutal crushing with deep vocals and sick atmosphere. It’s a cool, fast-paced one with fine complexity and changes. Creative, precise work. The closing song is Centric Flow the thematic structure of which is convincing as it is its dynamic verve, oldschool death metal base and raw sound. There are fast and slower tempos here as well as staccato, grinding themes or cool solos as it can be expected from such a well-playing band. Recommended to fans. 9 / 10 - Kronos Mortus |

Obscura - Cosmogenesis Relapse Records Obscura was formed in 2002, and nowadays consists of founder Steffen Kummerer with former members of technical Death Metal bands Necrophagist and former Pestilence bass player Jeroen Paul Thesseling. This aforementioned gathering of artists is now set to release their Relapse Records debut “Cosmogenesis”. As could be expected from the Necrophagist reference and the Gorguts-inspired band name, the band plays a raving brand of technical Death Metal, not dissimilar to Necrophagist. A difference is a much less profound focus of brutality, with most of the tracks having a clear sense of melody to them. This also comes back in an abundance of guitar solos, often going from the shredding to the melodic. There is also a huge role reserved for the fretless bass of Jeroen Paul Thesseling, which has a clear part in the mix and is even shifted up as a solo instrument in for instance ‘Choir Of Spirits’. I have to say, the more melodic approach comes off very well, still highlighting technical prowess and brutality, while still keeping an eye on decent song-writing. The vocals aren’t necessarily the most guttural vocals you’ll hear but more than serve their purpose, and on occasion there are also clean vocals in the style of Cynic’s masterpiece “Focus”. But perhaps the most impressive track is the instrumental ‘Orbital Elements’, touching on Opeth’s “Morningrise” and some of the great Metallica instrumentals, all in a more brutal Death Metal style. But ‘Universe Momentum’, ‘Desolate Spheres’ and ‘Infinite Rotation’ also deserve some name-calling. The only slight downside I can find is that the songs are perhaps a tad too long, with the album clocking in at 50 minutes. Still, that’s just a minor flaw of an otherwise impressive technical Death Metal album. Coming to you on the 2nd of March! Vincent - Quintessence |
