Mja ik kan nog niet heel positief zijn over Ghost Reveries. Hij is iets minder kut dan Damnation... Maar veel scheelt het niet.

Blasfeem.

Het enige album wat me tot nu toe erg bijblijft is Deliverance. De afwisseling... de opbouw ...

Ik vind 'Ghost Reveries' nog steeds een uitermate zwak album, het concert in Utrecht afgelopen zondag heeft daar geen verandering in gebracht. Vooral het nummer 'The Great Conjuration' is gewoon beschamend slecht; een ontzettend lullig thema wat de hele tijd terugkeert en van die irritante 'proggie' passages.
De rest van de cd is bij vlagen aardig maar haalt het bij lange niet bij de oudere cd's.
En de keuze om keyboards toe te voegen was merkwaardig, omdat Akerfeld zelf in interviews zei dat hij daar niet van hield.

Ik ben bang dat Opeth zijn beste tijd wel gehad heeft...

ik denk het ook. ik had hoop toen ze zeiden dat ze een `harde` cd zouden maken, maar die blijft helaas uit.

Inderdaad. Van "we hebben alleen af en toe een beetje piano op onze albums gehad" en dan nu de oude nummers vernaggelen.

Op een gegeven moment klonk het echt als Stratovarius ofzo. Maar verder wel een puik concert.

Sinds ze met zijn vijven zijn, zijn de overeenkomsten niet te ontkennen.

Inderdaad een erg grappige gast. Ik moet zeggen dat ik wel moest wennen aan de nieuwste plaat, maar zoals ik had verwacht kan ik hem toch weer goed waarderen. Voor mij is dit nog steeds 1 van de gaafste band around.

En ze komen weer naar Nederland!

Bevestigd voor Lowlands, en 25 juni staan ze in Lucky&Co in Rijssen!

OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt recently spoke to Australia's Time Off magazine about the inspiration for his band's occult lyrical themes. "It started out as a fascination for these type of lyrics and that's something that's deeply rooted in heavy metal," he explained. "It's always been there, ever since I was a kid. I picked up an IRON MAIDEN record, or [JUDAS] PRIEST, it was kind of dark. A piano song like 'Epitaph'... a jolly old song but the lyrics are quite dark and quite gothic. That was something I was always intrigued by.

"I don't see myself as a real dark type of person, but I do have a connection with that side. It doesn't necessarily mean I want to kill everyone I meet or I want to worship Satan. I can turn those wicked sides I've got into my own art, if you will.

"Most of the bands today, I don't really like them. When I grew up it was like heresy to compare KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and whatever you got going with MAIDEN and PRIEST. Especially in America, it seems to be a little trend goin'... it's corporate business. The bands feel manufactured, almost like boy bands with guitars. I don't want my bands to be fucking pretty."
