Dear “Katatoniacs”, First off, we wanna say that we’re completely happy with the outcome and success of ‘Dead End Kings’, but truth to be told, we saw a potential in going in a different and unexplored direction with the same material. Our instincts told us that this would be both intriguing and captivating to revoke the loud and aggressive sound picture dominant on the album and instead give way to the atmosphere and tranquillity lurking beneath. This eventually became an urge, so a few months later down the road we decided it was time to re-visit this project, but indulge in new creative experimentation. So, it’s our wish to release the entire album in a stripped down, semi-acoustic way and turn things around completely and we are asking you, the fans, to help us do this by Pledging the various album formats and other exclusive items we have made available. By doing so you can check back regularly to find out about our campaign and the album’s progress. The synopsis is simple and album title won’t lie; the drums will be dethroned and the distorted rhythm guitars will be uncrowned! Instead, we’ll place the emphasis on the many layers of ambience, with the melodies staying central and the vocal harmonies representing the heart of the album. Also by pledging you are helping the bands ability to be able to tour further afield. Although the songs are the same and the track listing doesn’t change, we hope the end result is something entirely different! Think of the album like a person’s face in the hands of a surgeon, whose appearance is gonna change, but it’s still the same person behind that face and we guess an important factor, in this case, would be that the surgeon itself is obviously Katatonia, not a stranger! If there’s one album in our repertoire that’s suited for a thing like this, it’s ‘Dead End Kings’. We’ll be doing this in partnership with our record label’s imprint division Kscope Music who specialise in these kind of releases, but we would also like to involve you, our dear fans from the start to make this an album we can all cherish and be proud of forevermore. The aim is to have the album released by September 9th of this year. In order to do this we have cleared out our rehearsal room and parent’s attics and found some long lost treasures that we’re sure will be of interest to some of you and will allow you to be part of making this album a reality. You can see the gems we found on the right hand side and we hope that there’s something to your liking between the selections of common goods, historic memorabilia and the more exclusive services. We’ll be working towards a minimum income to make this record possible and you’ll be able to keep track of our progress on the percentage bar above. Thanks for checking in Cheers! Anders, Jonas, Daniel, Sodo & Nille Horns up! |

Hmmm... Don't try to impress anyone. You're brave, we all know that. Be simple, be direct. Nothing fancy. |
quote: Nee precies.
Don't try to impress anyone. You're brave, we all know that. Be simple, be direct. Nothing fancy. |
Yesterday is dead and gone, tomorrow is out of sight. |
Don't try to impress anyone. You're brave, we all know that. Be simple, be direct. Nothing fancy. |
Don't try to impress anyone. You're brave, we all know that. Be simple, be direct. Nothing fancy. |

Concurrently also celebrating their own 10th anniversary for their masterful sixth album ‘Viva Emptiness’, the band will be performing the album in its entirety each night to make these shows even more special. Originally released in 2003 it is regarded by many, including the band themselves, as being among Katatonia’s finest albums. ‘Viva Emptiness’ cemented the band’s reputation as a major force, combining refined metal with doom and gloom angst-laden rock. A classic of the genre. To coincide with the shows and the album’s 10-year anniversary ‘Viva Emptiness’ will be entirely re-mixed and re-mastered by David Castillo plus enhanced with new artwork courtesy of Travis Smith for a re-release on 4th November via Peaceville. The album will be available for pre-order from Monday 23rd September. Guitarist and founding member Anders Nyström comments on the idea behind re-worked album, shows and the idea to play the album in full: “Sometimes after an album has been out for a while I always get the question if there’s something we would have wanted to change or done differently and 99% of the time I say “no” because we have happily moved on! But, there’s been one particular album that would in fact echo with a loud “YES” to that question. Dear friends, that would be the album you know as ‘Viva Emptiness’… Truth to be told, this album’s session was so full of obstacles that it compromised the end result with a subpar production, undeservedly affecting the musical quality of the album. We have always, and still truly love the SONGS we wrote on ‘Viva Emptiness’ and regularly continue to incorporate some of its classics in our live repertoire, even to a point where we notably realized they sound better on a live record than on the original studio album. So up until now, it’s just been a dream of ours to go back and drag the album out of it’s “misery” by treating it with what it so desperately has been longing for all these years: a complete re-mix and re-mastering. This year, time is approaching ‘Viva Emptiness’ with a 10-year anniversary, so is there really something to celebrate? Oh yes indeed! Our long lost mission objective will finally be completed! The album may now take that climb, in terms of audio quality, to be right up there proudly positioned beside it’s younger “album brethren” – ‘The Great Cold Distance, ‘Night Is The New Day’ and finally ‘Dead End Kings”. We will give ‘Viva Emptiness’ the sound and production the songs always deserved by having our long time studio rat and collaborator David Castillo work his magic at his Ghost Ward studio. Secondly, another long time collaborator of ours, namely Travis Smith, will give the artwork an enhanced continuation of the original theme that will keep the visual aesthetes at bay! And last but not least, the crowning of the celebration: We will take ‘Viva Emptiness’ with us on the road and play the album live in it’s entirety while performing as “very special guests” to our “tragic idols” in Paradise Lost, celebrating their own 25th anniversary tour this fall. Viva ‘Viva Emptiness’ Fulfilled!” Horns up! |
Yesterday is dead and gone, tomorrow is out of sight. |

Nieuwe track: The quality of our perceptions determines the quality of our judgement. Our judgement determines how we interact with the world. How we interact with the world changes the world. So, the quality of our perceptions changes the world. |

Nog een nieuwe nummer. Erg sterk. bub |

Zo. The Fall of Hearts bevalt me nu al stukken beter dan Dead End Kings! Fijne plaat! |
Inderdaad prima plaatje, niks mis mee. Vooral de progressieve elementen in de drums bevallen mij zeer. |
