Ja, het is zonde dat Stalker Magazine het moet ongelden door jouw geblaat, maar helaas...als je nu gewoon had gezegd "inderdaad, ik zit ernaast, Jullie plegen geen plagiaat...ik zat fout".
Harvey Milk RockEZine
Great! Another release from relapse. Filled with expectations I inserted the cd into my player. The first song sounds like an intro. ‘Well ok’, I waited, but the intro lasted for 6 minutes! And when it ended, the next ‘intro’ began. Ok. I took a look at the biography. ‘Too weird to be metal. To everything to be anything’; it says. Well ok, it’s true that they are weird. But that does not mean they are good at what they are doing.
Harvey Milk split up last year, after releasing 3 albums on 3 differend labels (Tumult, Reproductive and Yesha). I don’t feel the need to hear their other albums. This fourth album is a compilation of hard to find songs. Well, I guess they were hard to find cause nobody gave a shit about them.
Normally I like almost everything from Relapse, but this Harvey Milk is just too much.
“for Fans of Isis, 27, Melvins and Neurosis’. Well I like 27, and think Neurosis and Isis are fucking great, but I don’t like Harvey Milk. They combine blues, metal and stoner riffs. Could be a great combination. But not this time. It sounds like they bought a 2-track recorder and recorded this album in the basement of your neighbours. It sounds very ‘underground’, in a negative way. It’s just as if they are stoned and desparate and want to create something. Problem is : they are out of inspiration. It sounds just like that.
Nope. This album won’t see my cd-player again after hearing it a few times (wasted time). Maybe some fanatic Melvins fans like this album, or Relapse-Guerillas who just want to collect everything from the label. But it ends right there.

Harvey Milk op Vampire
This wasn't what I expected, at all. To be honest, I expected some more tech grind/hardcore, but Harvey Milk isn't anything like that. This CD is a compilation of 13 tracks all lifted from singles released through various obscure labels. It's a good bet most of these releases are nowhere to be found nowadays, so hats of to Relapse for collecting all those onto one convenient disc. The music shifts back and forth between Neurosis or even Godflesh type 'drone' (I would almost call it sludge) and more rocking stuff like Clutch or even Black Sabbath. The tracks also breathe the kind of feel bands like Big Black, Unsane or Dinosaur Jr had. That noise rock / alternative kinda' thing that's almost impossible to describe, but you instantly recognize when you're confronted with it. Most of the songs sound pretty stripped down to me and very organic (read RAW and honest), really bringing in to mind the Godflesh reference (ala "Hymns"). You'd almost think they recorded all their music in one single take, 'live' in the studio. But yeah, this is a pretty diverse band. The Kiss cover "Easy thing" comes complimentary with almost ridiculous cheesy vocals, absolutely terrible. Songs like "Probolkoc" or "Jaws jack" are just pure rockin' cuts, with a lot of emphasis on the rhythm section plus distorted vocals. For a compilation such as this, the production's fairly constant. The presentation is complete with a thick booklet which contains all the covers from the singles and a detailed biography on Harvey Milk. I miss the lyrics as these were not included, but it's not a big deal. I doubt this material will be to everyone's taste. Some of the slower tracks tend to be a bit tedious and do require some patience from the listener. The vocals can be a bit too much, although there's a fair amount of instrumental tracks present, aswell. I guess this is one for the more opened minded folks out there. It's not your standard everyday type band and it's surely different than most bands that appear on Vampire's pages. Oh yeah, the band name was inspired by the first openly homosexual politician in San Franciso. And to keep up with even more recent events, it's also going to be the name of the first all homosexual school that's going to be placed in New York City.
Hoor ik daar al excuses??
En ik moet Jenje hier zeker mee gelijk geven, geen goede reclame voor SoD zo.
