Waarom word deze band toch zo afgezeken hier? Ik vind het best goed te pruimen. Misschien iets te power-metallig her en der, maar ik heb veel erger gehoord. Sfeervolle keyboard-partijen ook!

Sometimes it is interesting to see how things fall into place. A mere six months ago I discovered a Dutch band named ELEXORIEN and their song “Rising Of The Storm”, liking it a lot and then all of a sudden, out of nowhere their self-titled debut album hits me completely unprepared. The Trollzorn label has churned out a few good releases so far, far and foremost KROMLEK, so I had high hopes for ELEXORIEN’s first full length, which are further fueled by the great artwork by Vitaly Samarin.

Now the style they play is a mix of some Viking Metal, some female vocals and some more, resulting in something they call “Battle Metal”, a term coined by the likes of BAL-SAGOTH and consorts, so a thin line they walk on, how successful are they with it? Well, upon first listen I was not that sure, but given a few more rotations ELEXORIEN’s magic began to unweave. After the keyboard fanfares of the intro “A Call To Arms” they go full force ahead with “The Curse”, part blastbeats, part double-bass, lots of keyboards, dual vocals, a nice and promising start to this album, I would say.

“Set In Stone” continues the excellent duet of epic parts and heavy, pressing passages, where especially the vocals of female fronter Iné stand out, as she does not have the usual soprano that we get so often, but has a deeper voice (which is just lacking a little more power), as excellent counterpart to the raspy vocals of guitarist Lainedil, something that sees even more of a duet part on “Sméagol”, in between the already mentioned “Rising Of The Storm” sets another highlight.

And this basically is the marching order for the rest of the album as well, epic and heavy, with some passages being a bit sappier than others and overall maybe the songs a little too close to each other, but we should not forget that a) the band has only been together since 2004 and b) this is their debut, so they have the future ahead of them and they should be able to build on the foundation of this promising debut, check them out, if this style tickles your fancy!

Mooi, maar even weer een keer kijken.. nuchter.

ik heb hun eerste(en enige geloof ik) cd,voor een euro gekocht op fields of rock,aangezien ik de lego clip eens had gezien en die me wel beviel.
ik vindt het persoonlijk een goede cd,al zal niet iedereen het met me eens zijn.
