"I just got back from the Rock Hard Festival in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, where CELTIC FROST [were supposed to] headline [Saturday night, June 3]. After BOLT THROWER left the stage the organisation and Martin Eric Ain came upon stage to say that CELTIC FROST had to cancel. Thomas Gabriel Fischer [CELTIC FROST frontman] apparently had some acute kidney problems, was rushed to the hospital, drugged with morphine and will be flown back to Switzerland tomorrow. The organisation had found a few other bands willing to play a few more songs, so there was at least something. NEVERMORE played three songs, SOILWORK, who had already arrived on the festival, also played a few songs and BRAINSTORM and SODOM closed the festival."

We will have more information as it becomes available.

Celtic Frost zijn naar mijn mening toch wel de koningen van de über-catchy über-duisternis. EN de koningen van de extreme über-gayheid (geweldige links attila om beide aspecten te illustreren ). Wat een merkwaardige band is/was het toch.

Klote van die ziekenhuisopname zeg, dat klinkt niet als iets dat zomaar overgaat.

Juist! Ik moet zeggen dat de cd wel een aantal luisterbeurten nodig heeft, maar daarna is het echt een supercd! Een van de betere comebacks!

Ignominy

From an intoxicatingly enjoyable and exultant show in Zaandam, Holland, to finding myself collapsed and paralyzed in the smeary puddles of urine and excrements on the floor of the backstage toilet just an hour later, to the ambulance ride to the emergency room at the Evangelische Kliniken hospital in Gelsenkirchen with an acute renal colic, all in just a couple of days. It seems so typical. A further emblematic page in the history of Celtic Frost.

And yet the excruciating physical pain pales when compared to what really matters. The shame of having to cancel a show, a truly special and unique show, is infinite. The disgrace and humiliation of having let down all those who have waited for so long - and also having so disappointed the other members of the band - is unbearable.

Celtic Frost Management Offers Tom Fischer Update

CELTIC FROST manager Antje Lange has issued the following statement:

"Over the last couple of days we have received a lot of questions regarding the health of Tom Fischer [CELTIC FROST frontman], as well as a ton of 'get well' notices. Here is an explanation of recent developments.

"At around 7pm on June 3rd, Tom was admitted to a hospital in Gelsenkirchen [Germany] as his kidneys were causing him a great deal of pain. After several check-ups he was diagnosed with a kidney stone that was about to dislocate.

"Tom's pain was so strong that only several large doses of morphine gave him any relief. Accordingly he was unable to perform at the Rock Hard Festival that very evening.

"Martin [Ain, bass], Franco [Sesa, drums] and especially Tom are extremely unhappy with the way things turned out and would like to apologise to all their fans who waited in vain for their set. CELTIC FROST were looking forward to their first [German] gig in 15 years and were determined to present a great show. Unfortunately, on this occasion it was not to be.

"CELTIC FROST would like to thank all the other bands who entered the stage on the spur of the moment to make this a memorable evening for these fans. They would also like to thank the Rock Hard team, all their fans and Dr. Dielenschneider, the best doctor in the whole of Gelsenkirchen.

"Tom Gabriel Fischer has been transferred to a Zurich hospital and is undergoing a kidney operation as this press release is being typed. Instead of an easier to handle but more time-consuming method he has decided to have this operation as he wants to be able to perform again as soon as possible. He is adamant that he will perform at Sweden Rock [festival] this coming weekend and also fulfil all other forthcoming festival dates."

As previously reported, CELTIC FROST's latest album, "Monotheist", sold just under 2,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group's first album in 13 years was produced by the band with Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) and features 11 songs. The CD was released simultaneously in all territories in three different configurations, including a limited-edition digipak containing the bonus track "Temple Of Depression", and a vinyl LP with another bonus title, "Incantation Against You".

CELTIC FROST cancelled their scheduled appearance at the Rock Hard Festival in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on June 3 after mainman Thomas Gabriel Fischer was rushed to the hospital, where "he was diagnosed with a kidney stone that was about to dislocate," according to the group's management. The band returned to form on June 10 by playing a triumphant 90-minute headliner show on the "Sweden Stage" at the prestigious Sweden Rock festival, a mere three days after Fischer had undergone surgery. The reactions to this show — as well as to the preceding warm-up concerts — have been extremely positive. To quote Martin "Raging Too Hard, As Usual" Carlsson from his review of the festival in the Swedish newspaper Expressen, "It was the best gig in the whole history of the festival."

Al vond ik het optreden van 19 jaar terug toch indrukwekkender, maar dat zal wel iets met nostalgie etc te maken hebben. En het feit dat tom er toen iets anders uitzag. Dat mutsje was toch wel een beetje fout, hehe.

Alle nummers (oude dan) werden een tandje langzamer gespeeld, maar dat was niet erg, alhoewl het af en toe haast wel een doom optreden leek. Gelukkig speelden ze ook crypts of rays, en die beukt dan toch nog wel, hoewel die dus ook wat langzamer gespeeld werd. Maar op deze manier gingen de oude en de nieuwe nummers beter in elkaar over.

Zowiezo, openen met procreation of the wicked, oei oei oei, heftig.

Jammer dat het geluid altijd zo kut is op festivals, ik hoorde eigenlijk alleen maar bassdrums en de bas met m'n slechte oren.

Hmm waar ik stond (vrij in het midden een eindje voor de geluidstoren) was het geluid juist wel erg goed. In ieder geval een erg gaaf optreden. Juist dat langzamere spelen van de nummers vond ik erg gaaf. Het werd nu nog wat zwaarder en lomper en sloot inderdaad beter aan bij het nieuwe werk. Geweldig om zo'n hoop klassiekers achter elkaar te horen

dat ene nummer op de stream van wacken is (carnivore trouwens ook).

maar, een vraagje... heeft iemand hier dat bonusnummer dat exclusief op de vinylversie van monotheist al gehoord?? ben er eigenlijk wel benieuwd naar.
