Tien mensen verden door de VUM (Vlaamse uitgevers maatschappij) uitgenodigd om de cd te beluisteren en commentaar te geven.
btw er is maar één cd in europa en die gaat van land naar land

Super! reageren een kerel van 26j 32j en 42j. "Wat een teleurstelling" zuchten twee 19-jarigen en iemand van 21 j.
Dit is Metallica nieuwe stijl klinkt het bij de liefhebbers, de drums klinken zoals ze nog nooit geklonken hebben...dit geluid kan je met niets vergelijken.

Ik zou zo de liefhebbers geloven maar er zit een contradictie aan vast: de ouderen vonden hem super en de jongeren maar niets

ST. ANGER REVIEW

Metal detectors greet you at the entrance. This is no normal album review. Metallica's new release is under such secrecy that the head of Mercury UK records personally flew to Sydney so as to ensure that no music is leaked. Jokes were made about a black market copy being worth 2 million to a music pirate. It put things into perspective about just how huge this album is.


This number is guaranteed to skyrocket on June 9 as this new album is all that we have hoped for and have waited so patiently for.

We were given the opportunity to listen to 6 track off St. Anger, and view 1 of the DVD live tracks that the band recently recorded.

Here's what you are reading this for.....

The Review

Track 1 - FRANTIC

The silence is broken with a machine gun type intro, guitars thrashing along with the drums as the intro rumbles in, stopped in it's tracks by a stripped down clean guitar, playing a eastern sounding riff. This reprieve doesn't last long as the drums bass and guitars all enter with a heavy version of the same riff. Dynamically this song has a really flowy feel for the verses and crushing metal for the chorus. "My lifestyle, determines my deathstlye" pierces through the palm muted chug of Metallica's guitars. A variation of the same heavy riff is introduced late in the song, and it all crunches to a halt at 5:50.

Track 2 - ST. ANGER

The forthcoming single, and title track of the album has a clean guitar intro, though the drumming hints at the mayhem that's about to follow. A heavy riff is then broken up with a clean verse with syncopated drums filling the room. Vocally this is quite impressive with the chorus vocals reminding me slightly of the vocals from "Outlaw Torn". Around 3 minutes in, some serious double kick drives this song to the next level. Quick drums are countered by slow heavy chugging guitars and eerie lyrics. "I need to set my anger free". The album verion runs 7:28 though it was said the single will be edited down to around 5 minutes.

Track 3 - DIRTY WINDOW

Military style drums kick off Dirty Window with a riff that is grooved in a C.O.C style, with the drums in double time behind the same riff the some thunders away. "This house is clean" Hetfield claims as the heavy guitars chug away in the background. Big thick heavy riffs. A constant kick drum beat is mixed with a spacey clean section, reminiscent of the clean part in "Astronomy". Chanting lyrics, and some more great double kick awaits as this song stops the clock at 5:25

Track 4 - INVISIBLE KID

Invisible Kid brings with it memories of the "Holier than Thou" intro with a galloping riff which sounds like it could easily have been from the 'Puppets' era. Guitars take turns, almost talking to each other with their riffs. This song sounds like many other songs have had their best parts removed, put in a cauldron and spat out the other side. Imagine "The Wait" crossed the "Battery" crossed with System of a Downs "Jet pilot" and you have Invisible Kid. "Open you heart, I'll be right there" rings out as Lars pounds more double kick over the final verse, in a Dyers Eve type fashion until ringing the bell at 8:30

Track 5 - MY WORLD

This songs sounds like the guitars have been seriously down tuned and the fat riff played this low rumbles the room we're in. Vocals are quick with a really groove based riff. "It's my world now, you can't have it" James's voice cracks as he chants "I don't even know what the question is. Lyrically a very loud strong song. This was close to my favourite song of the lot although it's so hard to digest them all at once. 5:45

Track 6 - SHOOT ME AGAIN

Guitar harmonics float in the background similar to the pre chorus section of "Ain't My Bitch" 40 seconds in, Metallica reclaim their throne as the Kings of Metal. The doubts should have been quashed by the five previous tracks, but even the most hardened critic, would have to agree that this is metal at it's absolute heaviest. A flowing laid back verse makes the dynamics of this song so much more apparent, making the heaviest riff even heavier. Drums and guitars have an almost "Pantera" type groove to them. A totally new riff comes in and annihilates all around 5 minutes in and puts the exclamation point on this song



All in attendance walked out knowing that on June 9, the music world will be changed forever....

Universal Music St. Anger listening party

Vorige week was er op MTV ( ) een special gewijd aan Metallica: Icon.
Verschillende (kut)bands speelden nummers van Metallica, er waren interviews en op het einde gaf de band zelf nog een medley van oude, snelle krakers (blackened, battery, hit the lights,...).
Op het einde speelden ze 'Frantic' van de nieuwe plaat.

Ik kijk in ieder geval uit naar StAnger.

IK OOK!! kan niet wachten .. haha ... Wil ook wel graag die MtvIcon zien, alleen jammer dat er alleen maar van die kolere Nu"metal" bands kwamen, wat hebben die er nou weer mee te maken! Ze konden beter de wat oudere bands nemen die ook echt zijn beinvloed door Metallica.!

Schijnt dat die kale knikkers van Stained ofzo een acoustische versie van Nothing else Matters wilde spelen, dit hadden ze 2 keer overmoeten doen, ging de laatste keer ook mis .. moraal van het verhaal .. als je het niet kan, DOE HET DAN NIET!

ik kijk er niet naar uit (wat ik als ex-ultieme metallica-fan eigenlijk toch wel triest vind, maar das hun eigen schuld.) maar ik ben wel erg benieuwd
