Even wat leuke feitjes? Bron, mail van wacken zelf:
W:O:A 2006 - Thanks for your support!
The 17th. Wacken Open Air festival is over and over the 3 days we've been able to celebrate the friendliest Heavy Metal festival on this planet.
40.000 visitors from all over the world, made sure even before the festival kicked off, that a big "SOLD OUT" could be reported. We would like to thank all of the metalheads, who have made this festival what it is today, the biggest and most important metal party of the year.
We also thank the journalists for their support. There were 3,500 writers and photographers from 36 countries reporting the harmony with which Heavy Metal brings to all races. Thanks a lot for your amazing support and good work over the last 17 years.
So that 2006 could also run smoothly we needed quite a few helping hands.
A crew of a thousand managed in just 2 weeks, to change 140 hectars of grazing land into a festival area. In this short time the logistics for a small town was formed.
600 security people guaranteed the safety of the visitors over the three days along with 1,600 paramedics, police and firemen/women were on call who luckily didn't have any nasty situations to deal with.
This year our site crew set up over 16,000m of wire fencing and then hung 6,000 cover sheets over them, alongside this came the 1,500m stage and entrance barriers. 500 different signs and 1000m of emergency roads had to be produced. Our tent builders erected 8 giant tents in a short space of time.
So that the logistic behind and on the stage functioned, 100km of electric cable was layed and 45 containers with 40 telephone connections were set up.
The stage builders used 100 tons of steel to build four stages and 70 generators produced enough electricity to supply a small town.
For this year's festival, 1000 mobile toilets and 250 m of pissoir piping was set up over the whole area.
The result being that 140.000 m³ of waste water per day was disposed of.
The catering crew provided food for 600 workers and 1500 artists 24 hours a day.
And finally, in just two days enough rubbish to fill 50 artic lorries was disposed of.
The 17th. W:O.A had a few innovations running. One of these was the Full Metal Bag. As we were forced to take a camping fee this year just to keep up with the costs of efficiently disposing of all the waste, for 10 EUROS the visitor could not only camp and park in the camping area but also received a bag filled with goodies such as a torch, rain cape, seat cushion, CD and other gimmicks. The extra 5 EUROS was received back when the rubbish bag was returned to us at the end of the festival.
We are proud that the W:O:A 2006, was not only completely sold out, but that once again it was the most peaceful of all of the European music festivals.
The Wacken Open Air enjoys the reputation in the Metal scene as being the most uncompromising festival in the loud and heavy section. Whereas similar festivals over the years have chased the trends, the organisers of Wacken have stayed true to the Metal genre. Through this, W:O:A has established itself to be the trusted institution for the heavy section and made the first weekend in August an obligatory date in the calender for fans all over the world to take the pilgrimage.
This year 3000 villagers from Wacken and the surrounding area were our guests. To these people and all of the administrive bodies in the local area we give special thanks. Without you and your support the festival would not be what it is today.
The festival is the Headliner and the bands play their Best of - Programme...
We're looking forward to next year, when for the 18th time we'll be screaming:
Faster - Harder - Louder -- see you in Wacken - rain or shine --
Thank you all Metalheadz for your support
On the black path she grinds her way to the death lands. OFFICIEEL LID VAN DE WALIBI HEERSCH CREW.
