Maar serieus; het zal me niet meteen opvallen als het fout zou zijn, maar lijkt me wel een beetje professioneel om een kloppende naam te hebben. En of ik dat persoonlijk van ze verwacht... eigenlijk verwacht ik het gewoon van een band die al zo lang mee gaat.

Artwork wijkt idd ook zeker af; de link met Evangelion was voornamelijk gebaseerd op de doorlopend gestreepte zonnestralen.

Anyway, startpunt is dus wel die liner-notes van Heretic. Dat je hieraan voorbij gaat, doet aannemen dat je die cd niet hebt (welke MA cd heb je wel?) maar goed, ik heb die liner notes uitgetypet:

The Mind is absolutely incredible!!!!
It is limited only by the constriction created by whichever system/program one has running/is conditioned in.

Beliefs/paradigms/systems are perception filters.

Without a conditioned system to fabricate reality, reality is only ‘Quantum Soup’.
Nothing but the potential to become anything and the becoming is based/constructed by the blueprints of our thoughts/beliefs/convictions.

Belief is the floodgate to our potential.

Beliefs, concepts, paradigms, etc…all dwells in the realm of the ego/id.

The ego is the tools and workshop by which one creates one’s reality in this game of life.
The ego is not who we really are but rather the roles that we can play and the playground.

The ego is pushed around by situations and is moved by external stimuli.
The ego is object referral and is defined by the way it reflects off it’s external environment.
This ‘reality’ is illusionary and only that of the game.

But in the silent spaces between our thoughts is where we find a more fulfilling ‘reality’.
There is lightness, bliss and wholeness, here and now.
And when we we identify ourselves as the silence, we find that we are not the manifestation but rather the manifestator.
From this place we can look upon our creation and see how it is not affected other than by the thoughts that we allow to zing around in our heads, the paradigms/systems we allow in our game.

The Manifestor is always bigger than Its manifestations.
The Manifestor is beyond the limitations of any paradigm or system.
The manifestor is nothing but the Potential to Manifest and Is Always at the Center of Infinite Possibility. The Manifestor is the realization that we have the ego/free-will such as an artist has the brushes, canvas and paint. These tools are never the artist but with insired imagination and freedom the artist can create by the means of the tools, manifest into the physical that which sparks from the meta-physical.

These words are incredibly liberating for me.

“The Most Precious and Divine Ordering Principles” (something I have been driven to look for throughout my life) and although I don’t believe much in absolutes, I do believe that the energy these words attempt to share is some pretty usefully ‘affective’stuff.

Whooo hooooooooo, let’s have some fun in this game called life!!!!!

Op die manier. Ik vind het waterverf effect wel mooi, dat zie je niet zo vaak gebruikt worden. Ik had het Evangelionboekje er ook al bijgepakt en het lijkt er op dat ze voor de cover van de CD een afgekeurde foto van Nergal van de Evangelionsessie hebben gebruikt. Misschien hebben ze zich daar door wel laten be-invloeden.

Nu moet ik wel even toegeven dat ik niet echt een Morbid Angel fan ben. Ik heb alleen Altars of Madness in de kast staan. De rest heb ik op MP3. Dank je wel voor de heretic introtekst, die kende ik ook niet. Zeker interessant.

Dat hoeft geenszins, maar als bijv een AG iets niet serieus neemt, dan verwacht je wél wat fundament daarvoor.

OK, dus Trey is zich er bewust van dat er paradigma's zijn en dat er manieren zijn om buiten paradigma's te stappen. Artiesten vertalen het metafysische naar iets fysisch. En zegt, in het heel kort, dat er geen andere realiteit dan onze perceptie is. Nou, daar kan ik het helemaal mee eens zijn.

Ik zie alleen nog steeds niet hoe hij dan een 'paradigm shifter' is. Welk paradigma heeft hij dan verschoven, volgens jou? Doet hij ons radicaal anders naar muziek kijken, heeft hij de regels daarvoor herschapen? Death metal? Filosofie?

Ik zie het echt niet, hoor. Een paradigmaverschuiving is niet iets wat je zo even kan claimen. Dan moet er toch echt wat gebeurt zijn en moet je een significante impact hebben op het denken van vele mensen. Er moet een diepgaande, breed gedragen, duidelijke en blijvende verandering zijn van het pre-Trey- naar post-Trey-tijdperk. En ook binnen death metal haalt hij dat toch echt niet.

Niet om de invloed van Trey en Morbid Angel zomaar weg te cijferen, hij/het heeft/had natuurlijk van ontegenzeggelijke impact op death metal. Maar een paradigmaverschuiving, nee. Death en Chuck Schuldiner zou ik nog een 'paradigm shifter' kunnen noemen, maar dat vind ik eigenlijk ook al te ver gaan. Dan eerder dat alle mensen die aan de wieg van death metal stonden de paradigmaverschuiving voor elkaar hebben gekregen.

edit: er is ook een substantieel verschil tussen een paradigma verschuiven en je niks aantrekken van een paradigma. In die tekst refereert hij veel meer aan het tweede, maar dat is evengoed vrij ridicuul. Trey heeft wel nieuwe dingen bedacht, maar houdt zich toch echt grotendeels aan de bestaande paradigma's omtrent muziek en metal.
